Hi
I've William Simpson Martied to a Mary 10th May 1772 but can't read her Maiden name or town from
I think it us Furniss nut she also went by Lingard as she was married before. Just can't trace her back as the Mother of Nanny Simpson married to Frances Yates in Glossop
Thanks For any help trying to read.

Were you going to attach the document so we can help?

The only marriage I can see for that date is for William Simpson to Mary France in Hope, Derbyshire.
As suggested by shanreagh, post a clip when you get the chance.

Providing I have the right marriage I think it
either says Mary Trance or France of the parish spinster
One of the witnesses is a George Trance or France.
William Simpson was of the parish of Glossop. Mary was of the parish of Hope where the marriage took place.
Ancestry says her surname is France
Mary Simpson wife of William Simpson of Hope was buried at Hope Church on 14 June 1777.
Mary Lingard married William Simpson on 22 August 1775 at Glossop church.
There are two William Simpsons of Glossop.

www.geneanet.org has the marriage in Hope,Derbyshire of William Simpson to Mary France
did he also marry Elizabeth Braddock in Hope as well ??

Mary clearly signs the register as Mary France, William makes his mark. George France also clearly signs the register as a witness.
Added: and Mary is said to be a Spinster.

Nanny Simpson married Frances Yates on 26September 1820 at Glossop Church. One of the witnesses was Samuel Simpson.
In 1841 the couple and their children are living in Bugsworth. In 1851 they are in the same area and Nanny is stated to be born around 1792 in Bowden Edge.
There is this baptism at Chapel en le Frith on 28 April 1793
Nanny daughter of Samuel Simpson of Glossop Parish and Ann Lingard.
27 September 1795 Samuel Simpson marries Ann Furness at Glossop. William Simpson is a witness.
Was Ann Furniss previously Ann Lingard and therefore the mother of Nanny Simpson?

This is the information. I think I was a bit confused when posting.
Ann Lingard Furniss is my maternal grand parent and it is with her, my tree seems to stop previously.
Thank you

To confuse you even more on 28 June 1785 at Glossop church Samuel Furniss marries Ann Lingart
He is of the parish of Glossop and signs the register. She makes her mark and I can’t decipher where she is from. It might say if the parish aforesaid.
I found the actual image by ploughing my way through the register book on Ancestry.
If it was my family I’d make 3 trees up from the Glossop and Chapel en le Frith registers of the Simpson, Lingard/t and Furniss families. I’d go from around 1720ish up to 1820ish. That way hopefully you’ll make sense of what is going on.
I’d use the actual parish registers which are on Ancestry and do one family name at a time, extract all those of that surname and build a tree. I’ve done this myself with a confusing family, I ended up with lots of post it notes and physically built trees on the floor before importing them into a family tree programme.
Then take the next name and do the same and so on. Hopefully the links between the two families will become clearer. Maybe also have the OS map for the area so you can see where the families are living.

There is also a NANNY Simpson bapt 30 Dec 1792 Chapel to WILLIAM/MARY
Given that Francis/Nanny name children William/Mary may be her Parents.

Thank you.
I've looked at Nanny and where she lived etc and I agree that William and Mary look more likely as they are in the same area.
There's not much for Eilliam and Mary and their details are limited. I'll keep trying though. Samuel Furniss did look really good and I originally used these details. I coukd be wrong, but it's confusing. Thanks again everyone

I wonder if William and Mary could have had Nanny in Bowden Edge and gone back to Hope. I'm going to look for more siblings for Nanny to see.
Thank you
