I am having difficulty with some of my Fowles relations.
Robert and Ann Fowls had children
Robert 1831. He married Elizabeth Somers but after the 1861 census I loose him.
Jane 1833
John 1835
Elizabeth 1838 -1838 seems she died as an infant.
Henry is my decendant.
I can't seem to track what happened to Jane, John and Robert. Did they emigrate or have I just somehow missed them/ Many thanks for any help. Mark

Where does Henry fit in?
What happened to Elizabeth Somers?
-
Have you ruled out this burial 17 Mar 1870
Bristol
Robert Fowles age 38
-
That seems to tie in with this 1871 entry as transcribed
Eliza C Fowels 40 widow
Alfred H 13 son
Jane A 11 dau
Robert S 8 son
Eliza 6 dau
Julia A 4 dau
Add is the same as on the burial in 1870 - Strafford St
On Alfred's marriage in 1883 father is Robert shoemaker deceased
-
Jane is alive in 1841 so have you found her in 1851 or used freebmd to look for a marriage or death? Same for John
Have you already investigated the 1854 marriage in Gloucs for Jane Fowles? She may not have married in Somerset
Henry - your ancestor - appears to have been born Dec qtr 1841 so you presumably have him on censuses through to his death

I was born & bred in Somerset.
In my part of Somerset Vowles was the usual spelling - never knew of any Fowles.
We had a Vowles shop in Portishead High Street, but there was also a Fowlers.
-
Thanks everyone for your help. The Vowles relates to Alice Vowles of Street whose family were originally Fowl(e)s. A lot of Vowles in Somerset and I wonder if it was thought Fowls not so grand? Mark

I am difficulty finding the 1871 census as I was hoping to check places of births and where the census was taken. Free cen and Family Search are drawing blanks unless I have missed.
-
Which 1871 census?

Ref is Piece 2559, Folio 19, p29
They're in Strafford St, parish of St Phillip and St Jacob (Bristol), Gloucestershire

Residence being Glastonbury not Street might not help!

Hi Mabel, thank you so much. I can't open the link to Robert's family or seem to find it when looking myself. Any suggestions please? Thanks Mark

I'm getting "Page not found"?
-
Me too now! I think I may somehow have added a stray extra character in the link. Try this
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V5TF-WH3
If not, when I searched for Julia Fowels in Bristol in 1871, it was the first record returned

Mabel, thank you for the information and the children help to prove this is my family. Kind regards to you and all who have helped. Mark
