Hello,
I am trying to sort out another branch of the family....Gladys Hull(e)y who married Vincent Howarth in 1934.
It is the Hully family who are elusive as I understand the mother of Gladys died young and the children were handed out to various family members....Gladys living in Hornby for a few years. She had several sisters: Florence, Joan and May amongst them. Gladys was born in the early 1900s I think. They were Roman Catholics and at some point they had a butchers shop in Swinton.
I wonder if anyone can help me further this very sketchy history?

Do you have her on the 1939 register for her dob?
Trish :)

Free index search of 1921 census shows Gladys born 1911, living in Pendlebury.
FreeBMD has a birth in September qtr 1911,Salford Reg. Dist. - Mother's maiden name of Perkin
Probable parent's marriage?
December qtr 1893
Salford Reg. Dist. Vol 8d, page 35
Hully, Francis
Perkin, Alice

Births Sep 1911
Hully Gladys mmn Perkin Salford 8d 48
-
LancashireBMD show the 1893 marriage at St Paul, Kersal.
-
Alice Hully is shown as dying June quarter 1921 - Salford RD - aged 50
-
Yes Alice Hully died 1921 age 50
Francis likely remarried 1924 to Mary E EDGE.
He died 1946
-
1911 Francis/Alice have had 3 children all living. Then Gladys after 1911 Census taken.
There are no other children born after 1911 with mmn Perkin so Alice must have been the last one.
So she was about 10 when her Mother died.
The other children would be out on their own or married by then.
Robert married 1928/Hilda 1924/Florence 1924
Unless you know otherwise, none of them I can see would need to be taken in by other family members given their ages in 1921.

The 4 children listed on the 1921 census are the same as listed on the 1911 census, with the addition of Gladys. And the address is the same on both records.
-
I'm missing a child then as don't have 1921 Census ? :)
-
Well that's solved a problem then....I suppose 'word of mouth' regarding family history can distort things considerably. Thank you everybody...I shall get to work on it all now.

Gladys was the additional child in 1921, the other three names are the same as on 1911 census!
-
Thanks I got confused :)
Nearly Midnight here so Happy New Year :)
