1921 Census for Robert Barbour who was a Chauffeur to a Doctor and lived in Houston, Renfrew.
Cant make out the name of his employment {looks like Navity ?}
-
I think it may say Private?

It looks like 'N' at the start then one or two letters then 'vit' followed by the last letter.
Are there any letter 'y' elsewhere on the record to check this one?
I don't think it's Nativity and there's not a 't' between the 'N' and the 'vit'.
Intriguing. ???

Private as I see it. The letter P is a very fancy and curly.

I agree with Cas and dowdstree.
You can't see it in the Scottish 1921 listings, but the equivalent column on the English household form has a note in the heading to the effect that where someone is in domestic service, the word Private should be entered. That would fit with him being a chauffeur.

Yes they give a stroke before each capital letter is formed. Also the a in scholar is similar. Are there any other P and E on page to compare?
Also if it was a sole doctor, would it be good employee practice to put his details?
Added: Just read Arthurk post, makes sense why he put private.
