Title: David Pugh Merthyr Vale - notebook started December 9th 1922
Post by: David Neil on Friday 09 December 22 12:40 GMT (UK)
I found recently an old cash book/notebook with date 100 years today December 9th 1922.  David Pugh lived in

20 Windsor Place
Merthyr Vale.

I was wondering what details the 1921 census had about him.  Can someone help please?  There is no clue on the notebook how old he is or what his employment was.  The notes inside are Christian poetry and extracts from sermons he had listened to.  They are in Welsh and English.

Thank you.

The 1921 census is only available on FindMyPast & is pay per view via purchase of credits.  This applies to people who have a FindMyPast subscription as well.

The index is free to search yourself.

Have you looked for him on the 1911 census in case he was at the same address?

Is this person an ancestor?

Thank you CaroleW, I was unaware of the extra charge. He isn't at same address on 1911 census, but there is a David Pugh living in Merthyr Vale with his parents aged 27. I will take a photo of front page and try to send it to this forum.

It could also be the David Pugh born 1877 Montgomery, single, coal hewer living Merthyr Vale with mother and 2 sisters in 1911.

Free 1921 index address search gives David Pugh born 1877 Llanidloes with Martha Pugh b 1877. You would need to check record to confirm if correct address.

There is a possible marriage freebmd in June Q 1920 for David Pugh to a ?  Brown correct area, but spouse first name not listed.

There is a possible marriage freebmd in June Q 1920 for David Pugh to a ?  Brown correct area, but spouse first name not listed.

Jun 1920
Pugh   David   Brown   Merthyr T.      11a   1950

Looking at the original entry on FreeBMD I think vol might be 1958 not 1950  :-\
so spouse might be Elsie as there’s a male name missing

Jun 1920
Brown    Elsie M    Pugh    Merthyr T.    11a   1958
Griffiths    William    Richards    Merthyr T.    11a   1958
Richards    Sarah J    Griffiths    Merthyr T.    11a   1958

Edit to add

There is a David & Elsie May Pugh  on 1921 census with a possible daughter P Pugh
Birth reg. Merthyr Tydfil  Jun 1921 mmn Brown)

Added David born 1895 Merthyr Vale Elsie born 1898 Canton, Glamorganshire

Not his marriage confirmed with Ladyhawke checking. Address search for 20 Windsor Place on free index comes up with 2 Pugh surname

David Pugh b1877 in Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire living Merthyr Tydfil (would cover Merthyr Vale)

Martha Pugh b1877 Llangeitho, Cardiganshire, Wales

Added as said you need to check address

Thank you for these replies. They confirm who was the owner of the book and how my grandfather acquired the book in 1950s. My grandfather William Caradoc Davies was minister at Bethel Aberystwyth. He probably knew David & Martha Pugh when they lived in Cardiganshire. It's possible they have decendants still living in the area.
I tried to send photo of inside cover with address, but it was too big to upload on rootschat site. But I will post some extracts from book later on in the day. Thank you again for everyone who has been busy with lookups. Very much appreciated.
