I’m struggling to find out anything about the history of my ancestor Henry James Wallis.
He was born sometime around 1831. He was married to Ann Morgan in Liverpool in April 1855 and he died in Liverpool in April 1904.
I think he may have been a photographer.
I just cannot find out who his parents were, who his siblings were, and where he and his parents originally came from.
I’d really appreciate any help as I am totally stuck ☹️
Thank you so very much to anyone who can help with this!
Ps. Attached is what I have so far, the further back it goes the less confident I am in it being correct 😬

The 1861 shows birthplace London Middlesex 1827 occ photographic artist

The 1855 marriage cert is online but he is shown as an upholsterer. His father is also Henry Wallis occ umbrella maker
Have you looked for him on 1841 & 1851 censuses? All censuses are free to search here

Thank you very much indeed!
I have been using findmypast.com, but I find it quite hit-and-miss and it doesn’t pull up some of the census years you mention when I type in Henry’s name / estimated D.O.B.
-
Can’t find him on the 1841 when he should be with parents. Am just checking the 1851

Thank you for sharing the free census search link.
I’ve been struggling with England because most of my family are Scottish and Scotland’s People works so well.
The link is therefore very helpful.
I will have a look more there tomorrow when I have fresher eyes to see what I can find on him / any potential parents.
I think his father may have sold fishing tackle in London, but, again, the further I go back the less reliable things seem
…just need to find a solid link to the next generation back!
Thank you again! 👍😀

There is a tree on Ancestry which shows his parents as James & Elizabeth. His marriage cert definitely shows his father as Henry

I can’t find anything that links to a father Henry on either the 1841 or 1851. Henry’s occ is quite a specific one - umbrella maker but I can’t find any baptism either

Found a baptism😀

There is a tree with several photos of family members
They have 1841 census with father Henry a gardener ....that's a bit different from umbrella maker
# Also the probable wife is Elizabeth
On baptism it's Ann
# posted at same time Carole
Middlesex and London are consistent birth places for Henry the photographer with Ireland as his wife's birthplace
-
See earlier reply - father was an umbrella maker on 1855 marriage cert & baptism entry for James Henry Wallis 1832 has father as James - not Henry - occ umbrella maker
-
There are 2 baptisms for Henry James son of James umbrella maker and ann
Jul 1832 + Oct 1833
The umbrella maker could have been another Henry James or James Henry going by James
Do you believe the upholsterer and photographer are same person ?
Could you give his children's names please
