What does BA mean in the Marriage/Orphanhood column in the Scottish 1921 Census?
-
‘Both Alive?
See here https://www.familyhistory.co.uk/census-records/1921-census/
-
This relates to a child that was referred to as adopted in the 1911 census. 1921 Census child referred to as daughter, with BA in the column.
-
Could it be Been Adopted?

According to https://www.oldscottish.com/blog/what-to-expect-from-the-1921-census its
"both parents alive"
-
In the marriage/orphanhood column - a child living with the named parents in the census doesnt have BA registered in that column there is the suggestion that they are adopted?
-
I think if the child is under 15 it means both parents alive. If you look at the census all the children have BA next to them if they are under 15 years.

My grandmother was a widow on the 1921 Scotland Census. The letters F.D. are in the Marriage/Orphanhood Column for my mother and uncles. I assume this means Farther Deceased. I've also noticed M.D. (Mother Deceased) and Illig. on some pages. Adopted children have 'Adopted Son' or 'Adopted Daughter' in the Relationship Column.
