I would like some help to identify Hettie who is living with Robert Clarke in 1921 in Rochdale, together with their daughter Elsie Clarke Hunt.
Census says Hettie Hunt, widow , age 38 years 3 months born Rochdale, cardroom hand out of work.
Elsie age 4 yrs 2 months born Heywood. Birth index says mothers maiden name Riley ,registered Elton ,Bury.
Robert Clarke born 5 Oct 1887 is my grandmas brother and has left his wife Ada.
I can't find Robert or Hettie in 1939 but Elsie is l think living at 92 Heywood St Bury and later marries Bernard Spring in 1940.
Thanks Sue

Lancashire BMD,
Elsie Hunt , mother Riley,
1917, sub district Elton, register Bury,
-
Just to note there's a George Hunt with mmn Riley born in Bury in 1915, but he looks to the the son of Nathan and Clara, who marry in 1906 and are still together in 1921

Thanks all . The census does say that Hettie was formerly employed at Orama spinning mill in Whitworth so I suppose she could have been from somewhere in the Rossendale valley. Roberts also out of work. Bad times for cotton workers in 1920s.

Elsie is l think living at 92 Heywood St Bury and later marries Bernard Spring in 1940.
Her death entry gives birth year 1916 , 1939 register 1917.
Is this Elsie with her parents in 1939?
Elsie Spring Birth 27 12 1916
Death quarter 4
Death year 2002 Bury Lancashire

Lancashire OPC has this baptism for a Hettie Riley but it’s in Oldham
6 Aug 1884 St Mary Oldham Lancashire
Father Ned, occupation pavior mother Mary Ann, abode Shepherd Street
Have you found a Riley/Hunt marriage?
-
Hi Ladyhawk. Elsie's birth is registerd Jan/March 1917 so I assume the death birth date is correct.
I haven't found a Hunt Riley marriage on Lancs bmds or OPC.
Unfortunately I don't have the 1939 Elsie Hunt household details will buy it tomorrow. It apparently has no Hettie Hunt or Clarke's on it. I cant find Hettie or Robert Clarke by searching the 1939 register.

From a published tree
James Henry Hunt married Elizabeth Riley at All Saints, Elton in 1909.
Child Elsie born 1916 (December).
They can be seen in 1911 and 1939
-
1921 shows James H Hunt with Elizabeth, Elsie and Henry R in Bury.
-
As the published tree shows Elsie Hunt, daughter of James and Elizabeth as the one who married Bernard Spring, is she the one you are seeking?
You would need the marriage certificate to check the details.
-
Is the surname HURST, not HUNT?
HURST, ELSIE CLARKE
Mother's maiden surname: TAYLOR
GRO Reference: 1917 J Quarter in BURY Volume 08C Page 782

There is a birth for Hetty Taylor, 1883, Rochdale.
-
Hettie TAYLOR married William Bradley LOVERIDGE in 1906. William died and she remarried in 1912 to Harry HURST who she was boarding with in 1911. This might be the Hettie you are seeing in 1921.

There is a possibility in 1911 but I can’t see them on Family Search.
Hettie Loveridge, widow is boarding with a Hurst family.
Hettie Taylor married William Bradley Loveridge in 1906, Rochdale.
-
Sorry, Debra, for repeating the info :)
There is a death for Hettie Hurst, aged 42 yrs, in 1925.
-
Death of a Harry Hurst b c1880 in Rochdale Q2 1913
-
There is a marriage in 1945
Robert Clarke and Roselia Peters.
This looks to fit with 1939 but no Elsie.
Robert Clark (no ‘e’) b 1887

Thank you all very much for your hard work last night. Yes Hettie and Elsie must be called Hurst. I will get the Elsie Hurst mmn Taylor birth certificate to see if I can trace Elsie via her birthday in 1939 and check the deaths. Any other suggestions welcome.
Thanks again. Sue
