Dear All,
I have removed the post yesterday with the above title because it was all totally untrue and was misleading anyone who read it the rubbish.
Nothing has changed, if anyone has any concerns they are quite welcome to ask us privately.
Regards
Sarah and Trystan

Oh Sarah and Trystan thank you SO very much for your response. I am sure we are all over the moon.
I cannot thank you enough for ALL that you both do.
-
I second that. Didn't think it was true either.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers

I HAD actually believed it - and was so gutted. Cannot tell you just how relieved I am by Sarah's message.
-
Thank you Sarah, keep up the excellent work.☺

We would all be lost without Rootschat :)

Thanks for removing it .
I'd like the title of your topic to be NOT disappointed in rootschat
The title was sooo negative and scary we don't need to be reminded of it
Thanks for all you do .
-
Happy to see you post Sarah & Trystan
I did not believe it, knew if anything was up it would come straight from you both. Glad you removed it as was upsetting chatters.
Thank you both for all your hard work, you both are very much appreciated and very much supported by members.

Never thought it was true for a moment.
2 reasons
You would have let everybody know so there would be no necessity for that silly post
Why on earth would one of the most successful FH sites be shutting down
Glad to see the post has been removed. A big thank you from me for all your hard work in providing this forum
-
That thread was a show stopper!
LD has been a member for many years. Just seems odd that she would write such things.
As ever,
Maureen
(Thanks so much S and T)!
-
Thank you Sarah and Trystan for confirming that all is well and nothing has changed with Rootschat.
I didn’t believe it, but I was quite annoyed that someone would post misleading information with nothing to back it up.
Thank you for all your hard work, much appreciated.
-
That’s a relief. Many thanks for setting the record straight Sarah and Trystan.
Keep up the good work and long may rootschat continue. :-*

For Sarah and Trystan 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

I never thought it was true. I have put a post-it note on my desktop to remind me to turn off my ab on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Keep up the good work Sarah and Trystan
What would we have done throughout the pandemic without Rootschat
Keep Rootschatting

Saw the horrible post earlier on today and disregarded it as I couldn't believe it to be true.
Thank you Sarah for confirming that you and Trystan are not "chucking in the towel" :) :)
Many thanks for all your hard work over the years.

Thank you Sarah for clearing things up. RC is the best site for Family History that I know of.
I was puzzled by Di's post as it just didn't sound like her :-\

Glad you have confirmed that all is well with Rootschat, Sarah & Trystan. It's a wonderful site, with lovely helpful people and is very well run. I love reading the posts, though I don't post very often.
Thank you both for Rootschat.

I echo everything everybody has said, especially Gadget. Possibly there was a malicious third party at work?

Oh dear, I didn’t see the post from yesterday but I’m grateful that Sarah and Tristan are not closing the site. I know how much it means to so many many members.
Having read through this thread I find it hard to believe Di made that post, she may have been hacked in some way, I hope she checks her computer and thinks back to see if anyone else had access to it. I hope this incident doesn’t stop her signing in.

So true LM! Thanks S and T.
-
Hurrah!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I've missed what's gone on ? :(
-
False alarm.
-
Thank goodness that was a malicious rumour.
Rootschat is like a second home, so thankyou to Trystan & Sarah for setting it up in the first place.
-
Missed that post.
Another Troll?
The web is full of misguided idiots who for some reason like to wind others up.
I hope the individuals concerned have all their fingers and toes, then with a prevailing wind and plenty of effort then can at least count up to twenty.
-
Like others I read the post yesterday but mostly ignored it as my experience of RootsChat has only ever been positive.
Thank you so very much to Sarah and Trystan, I can't imagine how much work is involved in running a site like this, but I am so grateful!

I too missed that post, so have no idea what was said.
Regarding the fingers and toes of those who do such mischief, I would be looking for the devices to "tie" them together.
Just keep up the good work Sarah and Trystan
-
Glad to hear that this site is not closing.
Rootschat is part of my daily routine and rootschatters have helped me in various ways - by solving a couple of queries; advising on where to look for information; even with a bit of light-hearted relief.
So, thank you for all the work done behind the scenes in maintaining such a site. Long may it continue.

I don't think it was mischief; at least not by the person who started the now deleted thread. She panicked and misinterpreted things that appeared when RootsChat postings were viewed by herself and maybe a few others, but not everybody. The same "things" appeared to one user of Find A Grave a few weeks back. I don't know if or how it was resolved.
I hope you like my obfuscation. I'm currently reading local newspaper reports of WW2 bombings where details were likewise withheld.
-
I saw the post and mostly did not believe the insinuation that RootsChat is going to end.
Sarah, I am so happy to read your confirming post that this is 'rubbish' and that you both have no plans to end this. I knew you would respond.
I thank you so much for all you both do to keep RootsChat going. It almost goes without saying that this means such a lot to us all; it is so much more than a genealogy site - it feels like a community.
I have been on here since 2016 and the only thing that disappoints me is that I didn't find out about it sooner.
Long may RootsChat continue! :D
-
I didn't see the post which caused consternation, but I want to add my thanks, and "positive strokes" for Sarah and Trystan.
Roots Chat has been such a tremendous help to me in so many areas, and sometimes I even get the joy of giving back. :D
The community value of threads such as the the Diary, or the Photos, Tea and Chatter, is immense and the gift of time and breadth of knowledge shared so freely is immenser!!! ;D
Long may this marvellous resource continue.
-
Sarah and Trystan,
I heartily second all the above expressions of gratitude, support and encouragement. What you have created is unique, absolutely incomparable. It has helped me through some bleak times in the past.
Long, long may it last.

Missed that post. The web is full of misguided idiots who for some reason like to wind others up.
I also missed the whole story. The culture of social media has developed attitudes rather like ringing the doorbell and running away, or in other words failure to properly grow up.
-
I have to say, I did partially believe the post as I don’t often visit the chatty ;D forums and I thought I had missed something. While I treasure the help I’ve received and thoroughly enjoy trying to help as well, all I could think about was where would I run across such a variety of folks again. Living in North America (originally Canada and now California), it is so refreshing to read some of the cultural expressions, sayings and jokes. I can’t count how many times I’ve laughed out loud after reading some replies with what folks in California refer to as “British humour”. I miss that style of humour; it reminds me of home and relatives who have passed on.
The original topic was negative but what I am taking away from this, turning negativity into positivity, is that I am even more thankful for the site, and how much we care about the RootsChat community. Thank you Sarah and Trystan, and thank you to our funny, informative, helpful RootsChatters.
-
Since no-one really knows quite how that post came to be made, maybe it's not a good idea to keep chucking accusations like "Troll" and "Idiot" around.
Sarah has confirmed that there's no truth in the rumour which is great news. Time to move on?
-
I saw the post.
In true RC style, I took the usual stance of though a tree/ family lore/ post in a forum/bloke in the pub may say its true, I'd have to check it out to be sure.
Given that the people who have definite, concrete knowledge would spot the post and confirm/deny categorically I just waited:-)
Thanks Sarah.

Phew......I was somewhat concerned when I saw the post but then life took over (birthday celebrations with family).
Good to know that RootsChat continues. :D
-
I read the original post and thought I`d missed an announcement !! I didn`t really believe it as it was written very oddly, I thought.
I can only reiterate what others have said. This is a marvellous site, I can`t thank Sarah and Tristan enough ! It`s a lot of work for them but I`m so thankful that they (plus mods) are willing to do it for us all.
To quote something I heard about the BBC, it informs, educates and entertains !!
Thanks again.

Being generous, it is always possible that L D posted her rant to the wrong website. I know that I have done that before. And now she finds she is the object of scorn and ridicule for a simple mistake ...

I just thought it was someone feeling a bit disgruntled about something, didn't take much notice.
I've now looked at her profile and posts and something doesn't add up.
Profile says 'last active yesterday (26th then)at 00.13.'
But that post was made on the 18th.
And anyway her last post was made on the 18th at 22.09. Both perfectly normal.
So I think something has gone wrong with her account, should we pm her or leave it to Sarah? I don't want to interfer, but she's maybe feeling awful and can't tell us?

The 26th 0013 was when the post was made, Sarah has removed it which is why I only the date time is showing .
As Sarah has dealt with the matter, I think it is now time the whole subject was dropped.

How about Admin locking this thread or even deleting it?
-
I never saw the original message, enough is enough now, the person concerned must feel dreadful as to what has been written
All I am prepared to say again is "LONG LIVE ROOTSCHAT"
Please can we bring it to a close
Thank you Sarah and Trystan

Oh gosh - just realised that this thread is supposed to be replies to the vent/rant/frustration about excessive advertising on RC and it's effects on the user numbers.
Silly me - just goes to show how easy it is to misread something :P :P :P
-
I saw and was part of the original thread.
The poster spoke only in speculative terms about a perception they had formed and closed the post by saying that they wished those of us who remain engaged in the forum "all the best" (or similar.)
There is no if and no maybe about the meaning. It was not "accidental"
Whether or not there is regret on the part of the poster, I share the opinion that the issue is closed and we would do well to let it drop.
