If there is nothing online (Findagrave, Billiongraves, DeceasedOnline etc) there is no alternative to persevering with council burial departments because no-one else will have the information.
Which councils have you contacted and what did they actually tell you? What exactly do you mean by 'getting the run around'?

I have tried North/South Ayrshire, Maryhill, Masonhill Glasgow city council most of them have told me to go to deceased on line which i have and as you know they are not there, Wallacetown Cem their information has come from the historical society for Jane/Janet Holmes nee Muir but no dates or information on burials is available. I am trying to find web sites of councils that have information to burial records and they say to contact them but when i do they just say try this or that link that send you know where or the places that i have already tried. I have also tried some of the local churchyards near where their last known address is some i am still waiting to hear back from, and others tell me to try again the links that i have already tried. I can not seem to find a place for the lair regester, and being in Australia i have very little knowledge of the area, any help in where or what to do next would be greatful again many thanks for your time Kim

There are 32 local authorities in Scotland, and one of them must have the records you are looking for, because most of the deaths you mention are relatively recent, that is, in the late 19th or 20th century.
Cambuslang is in South Lanarkshire council area https://www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/
Airdrie is in North Lanarkshire council area https://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/
You didn't say where in Ayrshire your Holmes family were, but there is also East Ayrshire council https://www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/Home.aspx
There are maps here https://www.gov.scot/publications/local-authority-maps-of-scotland/ of all 32 local authority areas and this one https://electricscotland.com/council/index.htm shows where they all are in relation to one another.
Some crematoria are privately operated, but most are probably too recent to have dealt with your older Holmes family as the first one in Scotland only opened in 1895. A list is attached, though I know of at least two more that are not on that list. However they're much too recent to be of interest to you.

No-one is a member of Scotland's People. It's not a subscription or membership site. It's pay-per-view, and very modestly priced compared with some.
-
You need to register with Scotlands People which is free. You then need to purchase sufficient credits to enable you to download the death cert for everybody whose address at death is not already known
-
Kimmit, are you sure of 1894 date of death for William Holmes? Scotlandspeople has 2 William Holmes who died in that year- neither is 32 nor died in Cambuslang.
-
Sorry my mistake
William Holmes b 19 Sep 1862 d10 Sep 1934 in Cambuslang married [[1894 ]]Agnes Winning B 12 March 1876 and died 1940 sorry must have put wedding year for death year

My Allan ancestor married a William Holmes, early 1900’s in Bellshill, Lanarkshire - he was a coal miner and they moved to Cardenden, Fife where they had a big family - Alice, Robert, James, William, Alexander, Mary and several infants who died. William is buried in Bowhill Cemetery.
-
There's a marriage of William Holmes to Alice Allan in Bellshill in 1912.
Then there are lots of Holmes births and deaths with mother's maiden surname Allan - all in Bellshill unless otherwise stated
James, 1912
John Allan, 1913, d 1913
William, 1914 d 1914
Mary Ann, 1914 Glasgow Anderston d 1981, Glasgow
George Allan, 1915
William Allan, 1917 d 1983, Auchterderran
Alexander, died 1994, Auchterderran
Robert, died 1921, Bellshill
Mary, died 1923, Bellshill
Mary, 1925
Doreen, 1926, Old Monkland
Mary Rough, 1928 d 1982, Falkirk
Joseph Smith, 1928, Old Monkland d 1929, Old Monkland
Margaret Crossan, 1929 d 1929
Alice Allan, 1931, Auchterderran
Margaret Crossan, 1933, Auchterderran
Moira, 1933, Old Monkland
Robert, 1936, Auchterderran
not all of whom are the same family, obviously. The Old Monkland ones are almost certainly the family of Joseph Smith Holmes, who married Jeanie Gibson Allan there in 1920, and Mary b 1914 in Glasgow and Mary Rough b 1928 look unlikely.
You can view the marriage certificate, the births before 1922, and the deaths before 1972 at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Have you tried looking for funeral notices in the newspapers?
