My late husband's cousin informed that Robert Murray was born in Cork Ireland. My daughter has got the results of her DNA test and there is no connection to Ireland but a strong one to Scotland.
I do know that he and his wife (name unknown) were in Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1836 when their son David Charles Murray was born.
Have not found any trace of this couple so wonder if someone could point me in the right direction please
Many thanks

Were there any other children other than David Charles?
-
Did David Charles Murray remain in Liverpool? Did he marry & if so - to whom
EDIT
Just found marriage in Liverpool 1874 to Elizabeth Gaster - widow. His father is Robert occ mariner. David was 38 occ ship steward
-
There is a marriage to an Elizabeth Gaster,(Widow) West Derby, Lancs, 1874.

See my edit above

David Charles Murray's wife Eliza had children by her first marriage but only George Edward Ronald Murray with David.
The only record I have of Robert Murray is on David's marriage Certificate.
Not knowing where Robert originated from in Scotland is making him hard to find.
So would appreciate help to point me in the right direction
Many thanks

George Edward Ronald Murray was b 1879 mmn shown as Gaster but should be Hindes
He married Rosetta Cooper 1900 Hackney
The biggest problem you have is that David Charles & his father Robert were mariners so may not have been ashore on census night. Son George ER was baptised 29.2.1880 - David Charles is shown as a mariner
I do know that he and his wife (name unknown) were in Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1836 when their son David Charles Murray was born.
Where did you get that info as I cannot see any census entry or a baptism to support his birthplace being Liverpool?

Emily's maiden name was Emily Hines and she married Edwin Edward Gaster in 1855.
He died young
-
David Charles Murray's wife Eliza
Emily's maiden name was Emily Hines
Think you mean Eliza/Elizabeth
GASTER Edwin Edward Stepney 1c 862
HINES Eliza Maria
Marriage cert shows father as George occ joiner - same as 1874 marriage to Murray. 1874 shows her as Elizabeth
1861 shows she was b Deptford Kent 1836
-
There is a Robert Murray, mariner, born Liverpool about 1814/15, who sailed on the Manchester of Whitehaven and then the Cherub, both in 1836. He seems to have deserted the Cherub at Newfoundland.
-
Please see reply 6 - where did you get the info from re Liverpool birth for David Charles Murray?
-
I apologise as it was David's son that was born in Toxteth Park and not him
-
That sighting you had of Robert sounds very interesting. Great possibilities.
Just keeping my fingers crossed it could be the correct Robert
many thanks

My late husband's cousin informed that Robert Murray was born in Cork Ireland. My daughter has got the results of her DNA test and there is no connection to Ireland but a strong one to Scotland.
I wouldn't rely on DNA to distinugish between Scottish and Irish ancestry.
First, it's possible (though maybe unlikely) that the critical bit of DNA from one side of a family didn't get passed down to all that person's descendants.
Second, Scots and Irish are both Celtic peoples connected by geography and culture as well as by blood, and I would be a bit sceptical of any DNA analyses that claimed to be able to distinguish them with certainty from one another.
Third, even if it had been possible to tell the difference, there were so many people in Ulster of Scots descent after the Plantation that the bloodlines must have got mixed again.

That makes complete sense and will send your message on to my daughter.
So looks like I will not be able to find Robert as I gather that the Irish records were
all destroyed by fire in 1922.
Thank you and everyone else who tried to find him for all the hard work they have
put into this request
Many thanks

Not all Irish records were destroyed but with so little information to go on it will be very difficult to be sure of finding the right Robert Murray.
-
I agree with you and will just have to draw a line under poor Robert
Again, many thanks
