Looking for Marie Ellen Dawson (1945-2012) in 1950 US Census. She lived in Chicago most of her life. Her parents were Talmage Edward Dawson (1894?-1974) and Margaret Jane Swartz (1914-1997). They may have spent time in the district of Columbia in the 1940's, and Talmage also hailed from Kansas. It is also possible Margaret may have spent time in Dallas area in Texas.

There is a Margaret Dawson (34) listed as a lodger with her daughter Mary E. Dawson (4) in the house of Arnold Lindstrom in Chicago. Could this be the one you are looking for?

According to this tree at Family Search, Talmage didn't marry Margaret Jane Swart until 1952 in Chicago.
If this is true, then Marie Ellen Dawson, born 1945 would not be the daughter of both? She could be his daughter from previous marriage or her daughter from previous marriage and Marie adopted with last name changed to Dawson? If, the latter is true, then Marie may be listed in the 1950 census with her mother and under Margaret's previous married name?

There's a 1952 marriage for Talmadge Dawson & Margaret Dawson. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:7WLG-XB3Z Since she's listed as Dawson, did they previously marry and divorce? Was she married to another Dawson? Is the transcription messed up? Not sure.

Talmage may be listed as divorced in the 1950 census in Chicago with daughter Wanda.

Social Security has the following for her mother
January 1945 Margat Jane Dawson to 5 August 1976
She died as Margaret Jane Langley 12 March 1997 Texas SSN notified 26 March 1997
So perhaps they made it legal as of 1952?
Talmadge Dawson died 1974 Illinois

She may have been named Margaret Dawson in the 1952 marriage record because she may have kept her married name Dawson after her 1st divorce.

The 1950 census is available for free at Ancestry. You just need to have registered and be logged in to view.
This is the census mentioned in the first reply. Margaret is listed as divorced and born in Washington, D.C. This seems to fit the story line.
