In connection with the upcoming Nov 11th service at Eckford War Memorial I'm trying to find more about Robert Brydon McGeorge R.A.V.C. from Mainhouse, Scottish Borders. He died 10th Feb 1919 aged 43 and is buried in Eckford cemetery.Mother Mary Agnes McKie, Burnside Cottage, Earlston. Is it possible to find out how he died and is buried here?

According to his gravestone his service number is 28955 and he was in the Royal Army Vet Corps.
rosie17 I've been flailing around in scotlandspeople and can't see where to look for Ref 787/A3 so I think I'll have to give up on that one!
Is Mary Agnes McKie his widow left behind?

If you go on to Scotlandspeople and search deaths put his name in and the year of death 1919 -1919 it will come up.

All you need to do on Scotlands People is register (free)

Then the following

Click on "Search our records"
Select "Advanced People Search"
Select "Statutory Registers" then "Deaths"

The index is free to search but to download the entry you will have to buy credits via the SP website

He is mentioned on www.cwgc.org

According to his gravestone his service number is 28955 and he was in the Royal Army Vet Corps.

He was in two different units, hence having two numbers.

Both units are mentioned here, and if you scroll down, you will see the links to his burial/grave information.

Unfortunately, we can't access records on SP by Ref. No. (which would be great) i.e. you have to type in the other info. provided, then check the ref. no. is the same as provided here by Rosie...

You can view his death on scotlandspeople
McGeorge Robert Bryden
1919 Eckford

Ref 787/A 3
In the event of same name/surname/age/year/area, the ref. no. will help confirm you have the correct record.

The age on the entry for Robert B is 42 yrs.

Can you tell us what source gave Mary Agnes as his mother?

This is the marriage index entry which is downloadable & will provide names of parents including mothers' maiden names...

MCGEORGE ROBERT B / MCKIE MARY AGNES 1895
863/ 9 Crossmichael (Kirkcudbright)

Can I ask whether Robert B is your relative or is this an interest for a project, if so, which?

Annie

The closest I can find for a birth is...

BRYDEN ROBERT MCGEORGE 1876
865/ 6 Dalry (Kirkcudbright)

The marriage cert. should help.

Annie

Add...I forgot to say he may have been illegitimate?
