I can see Godesxx.

Have looked through some historical directories for clues to the name but no joy so far.

Wondering about Goderre ?
A date would really help.

Ottawa Journal, 10 Sep 1945, page 3, refers to a Corporal E. Goderre of 72 Preston Street. I can’t access the image.

This one perhaps?  Letter refers to Sam.

There is a family tree for this Goderre family in Ottawa on Ancestry www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/59286163/person/332372022489/facts

Tom, you need a subs to be able to view this. Not sure if you have this or can access  :-\

From the 1945 Ottawa Voters list, you have at 72 Preston Street the listing below. Son Eugene, as we now have from GG, was 'Sam'.

Great combined effort there from some of RCs best which emphasises dates/places (background info.) is always a benefit in helping to work out possibilities.

Well done all!

Thank you so much for this information, it is very much appreciated.

Just to add some context, I recently (by luck) spotted a listing on Ebay of several letters written to members of my family in Ayr from Canadian servicemen (and their mothers) thanking my family for providing lodgings etc.

Included with this particular letter I attached an extract from on this post, there was also a photo of Sam and his brother in their uniforms that Sam's mother had sent with the letter, so am really pleased I can do some more research now the surname has been kindly deciphered!
