If we have the right family, from your previous thread, it looks like Barbara, your great grandmother, was the daughter of Charles Conlon and Mary Hughes. Charles had died though so was not likely to be the father of Barbara.

“ Birth of Barbara Conlen September quarter 1887, Conway has mother’s name Hughes.”
Did you purchase the birth certificate?

Also from that thread, I posted:
I think this is the marriage of Charles and Mary Hughes

Free BMD Conway December 1864 vol 11b pg 1023

Charles Corlan and Mary Hughes are on the same page

Have you got the details from that marriage?

Is this the right family?

I see from a published tree that this record is attached to Charles Conlon and Mary Donney.
Marriage 12th July 1865, Dromore
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633269#page/79/mode/1up

I can’t see a civil record.

As the couple in Caernarfonshire had a child John in December quarter 1864, the same quarter as the marriage, it seems unlikely that Mary Donney has any connection at all.

A reply by Vicky on the first of the above threads said that Charles Conlon was born 1866 in Belfast and that his wife was Mary Donay.
Are you researching more than 1 Charles Conlon?

I came upon the following:

2 marriages for same couple-

Charles Conlon + Mary Ann Downey(not Donnay-mind that some writing in registers make it look that way).
The two dates are

12 July 1854 and 12 July 1869

I have checked all parish registers for several Dromore parishes for those dates and found no marriage. However in 1854 in Dromore, county Down register is a marriage between Robert Downey + Rose Burns so believe this is correct parish. It might be worthwhile to check with Drommore parish itself or peruse parish registers to see if marriage can be located.

The one I posted in reply #3 shows 1865. The marriages are not quite in sequence but there are two references on the two pages for 1865.

I agree that the name is likely to be Downey.

Hopefully,Vicky will come back and clarify the information posted.

Here is the birth of Margaret to Charles and Mary Ann

The Charles who Vicky refers to as her ancestor was in Wales at that time. Unless he was travelling between the two places.

Heywood, yes indeed 1865 it is. I had initially found these 2 dates on Ros Davies county Down genealigy which is generally so spot on. I thought it was funny that neither appeared and yet she had the witnesses correct as in they agree with the1865 entry. I wonder is she getting several Charles Conlons confused with each other-an earlier posting she said was spot on and yet some info given doesn't jibe with other info about Charles.

Perhaps finding the Dromore marriage will take Mary Donney/Downey out of the equation.
All seems to point to the Charles married to Mary Hughes.

In a previous thread, Vicky writes:
“I hope someone can help me, my great great grandfather was Charles Conlon from  Ireland, that is as much as I know except he was involved somehow in the William Smith O Brien petition ? I don't know if he HAD to leave  Ireland along with a group of other men.”

I think I wrote that there was something on Find My Past about the petition but I have no access.

I thought that might have been passed down in the family, but wondering now if that is another Charles Conlon.

If you were able to purchase the marriage certificate or find a church register marriage for Charles ‘Corlan’ and Mary Hughes in 1864, that would tell you his marital status and his father’s name.

Where do you have records or references to Mary ‘Donnay’  being your great great grandparent?

Just to say that North Wales BMD only shows possibles spouses and indicates that Charles Corlan marriage was a civil marriage, Conway.
