Looking for parents of FRANCIS PIGGOTT of James City Co., Virginia.
He was married about 1799 to Elizabeth Montague.
A progression of property taxes from 1782 - 1794 shows that Francis Piggott first appears in 1784 as 16-21. [ I believe that property taxes were levied once a male reached 16 years of age. By 1786 he is listed as over 21 [birth year 1765-1768]
In the succeeding property tax lists from 1784 - 1792, there are several Piggotts - John Sr, John Jr, Pearson, Archer, Francis, and a Rebecca Piggott (1784-1790). I believe that she is a widow of one of these Piggotts - Otherwise women were not listed separately. Rebecca disappears by 1790, suggesting that she had died. If so, she could be of an age to be Francis' mother. Francis died in 1833.
Hope that's not too confusing. Trying to figure out which of these Piggotts is Francis' father and whether Rebecca is his mother.

I looked but didn't find anything helpful. I think you probably need to locate any wills of the Piggotts that are still around and see if any of the previous generation mention Francis. I didn't see any on familysearch, but maybe ancestry.com has them. Or a local genealogy society might know where they are.

I have one source I can check, but only if I get to the Library of Virginia in Richmond. I have to re-up my library card in person since I am not a Virginia resident. (They can do it online)
In their catalog, under Wills and Administrations, are 3 Piggott entries, one of which Pearson Piggott of James City County, and apparenlty is an abstract of a will. It might list his wife and/or children. This is listed as NOT being included in Torrance's book of Virginia Wills and Administrations (which I have yet to consult).
The other 2 are a John Piggot from Northampton Co (1702), and a John Piggott from Henrico Co (1787).
It is possible that the Northampton Co one is a ancestor of the James City Piggotts, given the date. There seem to have been 2 cadres of Piggotts in Va, one in Loudoun Co and the other in James City Co, springing from the same progenitor in Northampton Co.
Thanks for helping. The name is sufficiently uncommon that I was hoping to garner interest from other Piggott descendants.
