Could anyone help with a birth and death date for Rachel Bailey born around 1740/50 in Leek, she Married Philip Beecroft in ? year, no idea where assume Stafforshire and they had I believe, 3 children .Any help would be much appreciated.
-
What evidence do you have that she was born in Leek?
How have you calculated her birthyear?
What were the children's names & birthyears? If you are a descendant you must know at least one of the names/birthyears
-
My information has come via an Australian distant relation who is researching the same tree line, I have searched to cross/ reference but to no avail so far.. Philip and Rachel's children were Mary Beecroft who apparently died in 1841,although I can't find this information, Philip Beecroft born 1781 Cheshire who Married Mary Henshall in stoke on Trent , (they became my 4 times grandparents.) and possibly Ann Beecroft
Philip was born c 1743 and died 1827 so its just an assumption Rachel was possible brn in the years before, during or after husband Philips birth .. Philip was born in Knutsford Cheshire
I'm sorry I don't have much other detail to go on !
-
Philip Beecroft bn 1781 was buried in Middlewich 25 Sep 1831 - he was baptised at Weaverham with mother as Elizabeth
-
Thank you Rosie, this fits with my dates information on Philip Beecroft, so his mother was Elizabeth and not Rachel ? That's a confusing turn of events , as the name Rachel Bailey has been used down the generations asa name/ second name quite often, so must have come from somewhere ? ???
-
I note that there is a tree on Ancestry for Rachel Bailey (no info.) & Phillip Beecroft 1743 – 1827
And a son Phillip Beecroft 11 September 1831 died 25 September 1831.
Another tree has the above plus daughters Mary 1771 & Ann 1772, Rachel is shown as born 1745c Leek.

There are a number of baptisms at Weaverham, Cheshire, only father Phillip noted.
However there are also these for Phillip which names the mother as Elizabeth
Mary 1771, Samuel 1773, James 1778, Phillip 1781, Ann 1782.

Thank you for all your replies everyone, I think I will have to study this all and start afresh, I have found the copy of the "Tree information"which was sent to me from my relation in Australia is it poss to attach to this forum ? I have been trying to cross check details but getting no where, probably as it seems this Rachel Bailey does not exist after all and Philip married a Elisabeth instead.

Philip and Rachel / Elizabeth 's ? son Philip born 11th September 1781, definitely my great gr gr gr Grandfather as all generations back to him fit with what we know and research
So as you say my relation must have it mixed up! (sadly she passed away so no longer able to contact her ) On Ancestry 1 or 2 members trees have Rachel Baily married to Philip Beecroft too which is strange . ??? and also a big coincidence is the pass down of the "Rachel Bailey " Beecroft name
Hey ho !
-
It is quite possible that the other tree owners have copied information from others.
Whilst I do not have my tree on any commercial web site one of my relatives did with information from another relative. I later discovered that an error had been made and informed them but one of the trees was not altered. It is still on the site today.

Yes I do realise that but it still doesn't explain the family Name !which is a big coincidence if that's what it is
Thank you all the same to everyone and for the interesting stories of Philip..Just wish i had asked my distant cousin where her information had been sourced..

? Have you checked for any Wills.
-
Hi my 4th great grandfather was Philip Beecroft who married Elizabeth Rathbone then Margaret Braburn in 1801. Philip and Elizabeth had children, my 3rd great William was one and they also had a Philip among others. I have come across this Rachel Bailey through other researchers but can find no trace of her being connected to my Philip. Perhaps she married the son Philip but I can find no record of that! As you say, a mystery. Which of Philips children are you related to?
-
Phillip/Mary Beecroft bapt a Daug Rachel Bailey Beecroft 1831 as you likely know.
It may just be a name of a friend of theirs or as in my case:
My Leggett ancestors named a Daug Elizabeth Louttid Leggett.
Mary Leggett nee Newby named her after her Sister Elizabeth who married a Louttid.
Trish :)
1831 Rachel is easy to follow as she never married.
1851/1861 she is with her unm Aunt Ann, Daug of Philip/Elizabeth, bapt 1782
-
Most interesting! I haven't done much research into Philip, son of my 4th great so it vould be him who married Mary. I will look into this. Thank you.

Mary and Anne ran a school in Great Budworth. Mary seemed to own a lot of property in Cheshire according to the land tax records.
