I'm looking for the Maiden name of Nancy Wright 1785-1848 wife of Samuel Wright 1780-1851 of Bamford. Both buried at Hathersage Parish Church. I don't know of Marriage Place or date.
-
What are the names of their children please?
There is this marriage - Samuel WRIGHT (of Shirland) and Ann ELSE (Ashover) 25 Nov 1799 at Ashover by banns

I realise Shirland is some way from Bamford and Hathersage. :-\

I'm looking for the Maiden name of Nancy Wright 1785-1848 wife of Samuel Wright 1780-1851 of Bamford.
Which child of theirs are you descended from, what's the approx. DoB & where?
Knowing where the birth of the eldest child was, may lead to where the marriage took place.
It's worth knowing Nancy is a variant of Agnes & may also be Senga.
It's always an idea to give a bit of background info. where/if possible to help others help you.

There is a marriage on 3 October 1808 in Castleton (5 miles from Bamford) of a Samuel WRIGHT to a Hannah DAIN.
-
Thank you everyone, I know the Wright family lived at Edale earlier and attended Castleton Church. The list I have of Sam and Nancy's children are:- Samuel, Joseph, Sarah, George and Thomas. So far I haven't been able to verify this. Sarah is the only one I recognise.
-
Not close, but the only marriage to a Nancy that I can see… and marriage date is close to first known child with Nancy as named as a mother…. a long shot… but….
Samuel Wright married a Nancy Wright in 1814 Warrington Lancs?
Jo :)

Just been sent some names and DOB's.
Sarah 1818-1845. the only daughter of Sam and Nancy. Brothers were, Samuel 1813-1834.
Thomas 1820-? George b/d. 1824. William 1825-? and John 1828-? Although they lived at Bamford they attended Hathersage Parish Church.

Maddys52 1841 Census is the family. I think he name Barber has appeared somewhere before.
-
Hannah Dain possibly changed her name to Nancy. In the Edale records there is a Samuel Barber Dain, bapt.10/7/1779. Maybe a family connection with the name Barber as shown in the 1841 Census.
-
Ann, Hannah, Nancy are all variations of the same name. :)
-
There is a Samuel Barber DAIN baptised at Edale 29 May 1768, son of John and Sarah DAIN, and buried 4 Jun 1771.
There is also a Samuel Barber DAIN baptised at Edale on 10 Jul 1799 at Edale, son of Ralph and Ellen.
(On FreeReg)
Modified to add:
Ralph DAIN (weaver, bachelor of Edale) married Ellen YATES (spinster of Chapel en le Frith) on 29 May 1796 at Chapel en le Frith by license.
A couple of possibilities for John and Sarah, most likely John DAIN (skinner, bachelor of Chapel en le Frith) married Sarah LOMAS (spinster of Hope), on 06 Dec 1762 at Chapel en le Frith.
There is a marriage between a Phillip BARBER (husbandman) and Mary DAIN both otp on 7 Apr 1777 at Chapel en le Frith.
In the 1841 census mentioned above the Samuel WRIGHT is a farmer and the next property on the census has James BARBER, farmer, and his family. Whilst the families may be related through marriage, it may well be a few generations earlier.

Thank you Maddys52 for your reply, a few more gaps filled in. I also had noticed the two Samuel Barber Dain names!
-
A relative of mine thought the Mariage of Samuel and Nancy was in 1802 at Castleton, could anyone check this please?
-
As manukarik said in reply #5, there is a marriage of a Samuel WRIGHT and Hannah DAIN at Castleton on 3 October 1808, by banns. They both signed and witnesses were Mary DAIN and John PROCTOR.
Can't see a marriage of a Samuel WRIGHT at Castleton in 1802. There is a John WRIGHT married Hannah MARSHALL on 16 Dec 1802. Witness was Thomas BANDBURY.

Thank you maddys52 for your reply. I think my relative has seen John Wright mentioned in 1802 marriage. Thank you to everyone else who posted replies.
