Title: Help deciphering cause of death [SOLVED]
Post by: hiraethu on Sunday 25 September 22 23:12 BST (UK)
Hi there,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me decipher the cause of death for Thomas J Alexander on this record, the first entry on the full image (included in next message). I've included a close-up of that section as well. The majority of his family died from TB so I was assuming it would be that, but obviously it's something different. The only thing I can find that's vaguely close is Orchitis, and maybe they just mispelled it or it looks mispelled due to their handwriting, but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.

Many thanks in advance!

I think it might be phthisis* - TB

See a capital P lower down on the page.

* written with a capital P

Ah yes, that makes a lot more sense! Thank you! So odd how they switched between Phthisis and Tuberculosis in the same sheet, but I imagine there's some slight medical difference behind the two. Seems the family curse struck again.

Thanks so much!

It might depend on who certified the death.
