I’m looking for a Charles Stuart who was supposedly born 10 Feb 1867 in Shepherds Bush, Middlesex according to the 1939 Register and some of the censuses.
I’m unable to find a birth record for him. I can’t find him in the 1871 or 1881 Censuses. In 1891 he’s a schoolmaster in New Forest, Hampshire.
I’ve tried searching FreeBMD with just the name Charles in 1866 and 1867 in Fulham as well as just Stuart in 1866 and 1867 in Fulham. I’ve had no luck. An extra pair of eyes would be so greatly appreciated.
I have ordered his marriage certificate from the GRO Index to see if a father is mentioned but I imagine it’ll take a while to get to me.
Thanks so much in advance.

Is this the marriage?

A possible for 1881 census. If his father was in the army, parents may have been abroad.

Just bookmarking as interesting one but at this stage unable to confirm anything on the Father of Charles.
-
There is also this possible 1871 at Tower Hamlets
Mary A STUART 46 (husband at sea) Aldingbourne, Surrey
Charles J L 4 Poplar
RG10/580/60 pg34
Modified to strike through - the marriage notice says "2nd son" so this is unlikely to be them.

Excellent!!! That’s the marriage I’m looking for. Thank you so much! You’re all brilliant. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this.

Like probably many other's been looking for your Charles birth. Do you plan to order his marriage certificate to establish who his father was ( Charles B Stuart ) to establish what the B stands for. Have found a Charles B Stuart who was a Lieutenant but need to be sure what the B stands for.

Yes it’s been ordered. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten any further in my search. I did find a Charles Browne Stuart born 1822 in Calcutta. So while that’s been very interesting and I’ve learned a lot about that Stuart family, I don’t believe it’s the same Charles B Stuart.

That's good you have ordered the marriage certificate. Please do let us know the details when it arrives.

The marriage certificate finally arrived today.
Father’s name: Charles B Stuart
Rank or Profession of Father: Lieutenant 14th Native Infantry Honorable East India Company Service - deceased

I wonder if this is him in 1841 in Bombay:
"BOMBAY ...
Lieutenant Stuart, 14th Native Infantry, to act as Commissariat Agent at Rajcote, vice Williams, deceased."
Saturday, Nov. 6, 1841
Publication: Morning Post

I saw that too. It’s so hard to know.
On family search I found an 1871 census of a 24 year old Charles B Stewart living in Inkpen, Berkshire with his grandfather John Butler. His occupation is Lieutenant H M Highlanders, born in Bellon, India. Marital status says unknown. Unfortunately there’s no picture of the census.
-
He is unmarried. Charles B STEWART 24 Lieutenant HM 78 Highlanders.

Thanks for looking into that. It’s hard to find anything on the son Charles Stuart. Before his marriage there’s nothing really anything. I believe he’s in the 1891 census as a school master but before that it’s slim. I wonder if he was born in India and not Middlesex.

It is difficult to find much or make head-way with this.
I am unsure if this is the same family, but I will post in case it provides any leads
From Gentlemans Magazine Jan 1847:
Marriage of Charles Brown STUART to Charlotte Agnes CLAY
16 July 1846 Allahabad
At Allahabad, Charles Brown Stuart, esq. 3rd Native Infantry, son of the late Col. James Lewis Stuart, Bengal Army, to Charlotte Agnes Clay, second daughter of Capt. Knightley Musgrave Clay, of Laches, in France.
Same information with slightly different name for wife:
Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce (19 Aug 1846) gives the wife’s name as Charlotte Agnes Musgrave CLARY, daughter of Knightly Musgrave Clary Esq of Loches in France

Neale, I went down that route but do not think this is our man. This Charles Brown(E) Stuart was born 1822 Fort William,Calcutta, Bengal. Parents John Lewis Stuart and Gertrude Weston who married 1820. When Charlotte Agnes Musgrave Stuart nee' Clay died 17th February 1876 at sea (widow)her probate record records that her only next of kin is a Charles John Lewis Stuart. He was born 1854.
So the next search for me is to try and establish a link between a Charles B Stuart born c 1847 India the grandson of John Butler as per the 1871 census found, that in itself is a task and a half.

Witnesses look like either Jarvis ? Sheppard or possibly James ? Sheppard and Kate Agusta Cave. I looked up Kate Cave but couldn’t see how she fits in.
I’ve looked into Charles Browne Stuart, son of John Lewis Stuart and Gertrude Weston. He married Charlotte Agnes Musgrave Clay. They had a son in 1855, Charles John Lewis Stuart. He married Katharine Frances Douglas. So that rules him out.
