Title: Ancestry trees on the blink?
Post by: melba_schmelba on Sunday 11 September 22 11:27 BST (UK)
In the last few days, Ancestry trees have been playing up a bit, with the ignore function for hints failing to register for me, now the whole thing seems caput, and I can't load people's data on trees at all?

I've been getting the same problems intermittently.

Thanks Martin, I wonder what the problem is.

It's very variable gadget, one 30 minute period it works, then not. I've tried different browsers.

Are you sure?

I've not had any problems this morning.

What browser are you using?

I've been having problems with the ignore button too.

Now getting
'We're sorry but this feature is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience at this time. Check back with us shortly'

When I try to get on to my tree.  :-(

Mine's been doing it for days. Both laptop & iPad, so I knew it wasn't me!

It's an intermittant problem, so will be very difficult to tie down (and to fix)

Clearing cache and cookies does nothing. Refreshing the page sometimes works.
Clicking Review and Rejecting it from within the Review panel does work, but the next Hint will probably show the same problem, until you try the next idea:
Swapping to Safari on iPad, and Ignoring the Hint on there, clears the problem on the laptop (for a while!). Ignore doesn't always work on there, either, but even doing it via the Review panel seems to help.

Prevention? Nothing as far as I can see, but it may help to close the Review panel before trying to Ignore a Hint. I suspect there's something gone wrong with the inter-reaction of the Ignore Button and the Review Panel.

Still on Win 10 and Firefox - both up to date

And it works for me!

I've just tried it on Chrome and it doesn't work, so it could be a browser problem.

I always use Firefox, even on my Mac, and have had no problems.

Well four other users all reported the same issue on this thread, including me that makes five. So there clearly is a problem on multiple browsers and probably OSes.

Does it give any message or does it just not work?

It seems to work for 4 -5 of us and Kerrill's post seems to suggest  it works after changing to Firefox.

Think you sussed it Gadget, I am using chrome  :D

Well I am using Firefox and get the same issue. The button just goes pale and you get no popup saying why did you reject the suggestion etc.

I'm not using Chrome, I'm using Microsoft Edge.

I'm not using Chrome, I'm using Microsoft Edge.

I've just tried Edge.  It just faded the first time but when I tried again, it worked.  So, for me,  it is intermittent on Edge, doesn't work on Chrome but works on Firefox.

Just did the same thing for me with save hint button now. Am using private mode to rule out any cookie or addon problem.

I found that I couldn't use the Ignore button when I'd gone to hints from the facts page relating to people but if I went to the 'all hints' pages for that particular tree I could successfully use the Ignore button, for the same person, on there.

Seems to be alright now though, but the above is a way of getting around it.

And I thought it was my PC acting up!  The Ignore button has not been working properly for me over  here in the Great White North either.  I also use Chrome.  Glad to know it's not just me :)

I am on Edge and its been intermittent for a while mostly I find I Ignore and press again and it works
but is frustrating especially as they have just taken my money again! ???after being a long time user guess I have got used to it annoying but they have so much info on site they know we will put up with it :(
