This is a new one for me.
In 1901 census the Thomas family living in Regent Street Gloucester is listed twice. On page 15 they are all listed in detail, then on page 18 exactly the same family but with slightly altered occupations. The families before and after on each page differ. I wonder if they were actually spread out over two different houses and different family members answered the enumerators without realising they were being double counted!

Which Thomas family? Can you post full details?
-
Could you please give full reference numbers for the pages you mention
-
Yes we need to know full details so we can judge but I think it is a case of being enumerated twice. Often I have found that for a person away on census night in a nearby village and enumerated at home and at the place they were staying but for a whole family that is new to me but could have still happened. I guess misunderstanding the census instructions lead to such incidences. They had to record everyone at their residence on census night, but people could have mistook this for usual residency.

Sorry. I forgot to add the details
Abel Thomas, aged 65, born Colwell, Herefordshire. 1901 Worcester, st Martins, Holy Trinity
Piece 2780
First entry Folio 99 pg 15 Schedule 114.
Second entry Folio 100 pg 18 Schedule 131
I only wish that one version had Abel’s occupation as I am looking for a brewer!

I have just made a break through thanks to FindMyPast hints!
It looks as though Abel was previously using the name James Thomas and he WAS a brewer.
I have found the family up in Bilston in 1881 and back in Worcester in 1891
Now to see I can connect it to Abel Thomas who married May Ann Nicholls in 1857 in St Clements Worcester and who is with her and their two daughters in 1861. I suspect he ran away with Amelia up to Bilston and changed his first name.

It is indeed! My apologies. Thanks for pointing that out. I don’t seem to be able to edit that post unfortunately.
