Does anybody have any information on. SHANLEY'S (Cornelius) and/or BOHANNON'S (Frances) in and around Strokestown, early to mid 1800s?
-
Have you checked them on "Surname Interests" under "Your Tools" to see if another RootsChat member is interested in them?
What information do you already have about them?
Were Cornelius and Frances husband & wife?
-
I have no idea where the "tools" is located, I'm still trying to learn this site. Francis Bohannon married Mary Frances Shanley in Durham, England in 1877. Both are from the Roscommon/Longford areas. Mary's father is Cornelius (c 1810 - 1877) and Frances' is John (c 1810 - 1883). My grandfather, John Bohannon is the son of Frances and Mary, born 1878 in Durham, England. His brother, Cornelius, was born in Strokestown in 1881 and the family immigrated to the US, in 1883.

Thanks. I'll take a look - I have his birthday as 1855 and in 1877 documentation and 1881 census, he is working as a coal miner. The marriage certificate has fathers John as general labourer and Cornelius Shanley (deceased) as mason. I will go back and research the 1871 census in Durham (Langley Moore) to see what I can find. Thank you again for your assistance.

So, Frances/Francis Bohannon was a man? The spellings confused me. Francis is male and Frances is usually female.

His brother, Cornelius, was born in Strokestown in 1881 and the family immigrated to the US, in 1883.
Francis had emigrated by the time Mary registered the birth of Cornelius on 15th March 1882. Date of birth was recorded as 12th January 1882. Therefore, Francis emigrated 1881 or early 1882.
