Title: Witton Cemetery
Post by: stevetewk65 on Wednesday 24 August 22 15:28 BST (UK)
Apologies all, I know 'finding graves in Witton' has been round a few times before but not for a few years according to search. Does anyone have an up to date, best method of finding a grave location in Witton? The burial I am looking at was in 1941.

Thanks
Steve

You can search here, but a copy of the page in the register is £10  :o

Thank you for the link Jool.

I have tried that register before and am not certain of the find, sadly

My GGF John Edward Lee: was born 1867. I have a death of a John E Lee in February 1941 in the right area of Birmingham and at the right age. There is a May 1941 probate showing DOD 9th February 1941. Snap again. And a Witton Cemetery burial that only states 1941and gives no middle name but I've assumed this must be him. But, the only John Lee Witton burial match for 1941 is November 1941 on the burial records. So the Witton burial might not be my man. Loath to spend a tenner on speculation  ???

John Edward Lee was buried at Lodge Hill, you can find him on the Birmingham Burials site.  His death was in the Birmingham Mail 12 February 1941.

Oh wow, thank you very much. So often we (well I do!) looks at this stuff and can never see the wood for the trees!

Relatives on my maternal side are buried at Lodge Hill so I know it well - but now I need a Lodge Hill plot map  ;D

Thanks again Jool

Are the Lodge Hill maps on Findagrave any help?  Scroll to the bottom of this link, click the map photos then click view original for a clearer image.

By the way, does the 319 Shenley Fields Road address in the newspaper clip mean anything to you.  If not I may be able to help with that. (Alistair Wilkinson b. 1921, mother's maiden name Lee?)

No it doesn't as they lived in Sparkbrook. As John died in the QE, I would guess his wife stayed nearby temporarily to be able to visit easily etc. Alistair Wilkinson is the owner of 319? A nephew by the sounds?

Whilst snooping around in the newspapers looking for clues I spotted this family announcement for the 21st birthday of Alistair with the 319 Shenley Fields Road address (Birmingham Mail 30 January 1942).

I checked FreeBMD for anyone called Alistair born 1st Q of 1921 and found an Alistair Wilkinson with mmn LEE, born 1st Q 1921  Burnley 8e 299.

There is a marriage of Nora Lee to Fred Wilkinson which I assume to be Alistair's parents.
Marriages Jun 1919 Burnley 8e 608.

I haven't checked what happened to Fred Wilkinson but there is a later marriage of Nora Wilkinson to William C Dunbar, Marriages Sep 1937  Birmingham   6d 1075.

Nora and William Dunbar are at 319 Shenley Fields Road in the 1939 Register.

Brilliant pieces of jigsaw! Thanks again Jool  :D

John and Eleanor had a daughter Nora born 1898 so Alistair will be their grandson then.

Glad to be of help  :). I came to the same conclusion about Nora and Alistair’s relationships to John and Eleanor, but thought I’d let you check your tree first in case I’d missed something.
