Hi all,Im trying to trace family members relating to Walter Hooton (d.o.b unknown) He married Betsy (nee Fletcher) & had three daughters, Mary, Elizabeth and Florence. The family moved from Yarmouth to Long Eaton soon after Mary was born on 4 Feb 1869 & Walter then entered the lace trade until his death in 1909.I have an oil painting that is dated 1888 and signed by L.Hooton? I have no idea who this is. I do have a copy of the "Seal of henry de Hooton, Lord of Hooton"granted in the reign of King John. This is in a Fletcher family tree book & all related. If anyone is able to assist in anyway at all it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Do you have Walter on census with a birth year and birth place, if so what was it?
When did he marry Betsy? The marriage should show who his father was.

I noticed that you mentioned the Fletcher House of Lace. Do have a copy? there is quite a bit about Walter and his family.

Son Edward painted in watercolours, but perhaps earlier in life painted in oils. So just in case your mystery painter, L. Hooton, is an E. Hooton, this is a description of his work in Australia:

Lots of mentions of Mary, who seems to go by Marie, and her father Walter in the UK papers.
