Title: Gretna Baptisms 1816
Post by: Little_Family on Sunday 14 August 22 11:37 BST (UK)
Hi,
Has anybody got any suggestions as to how I can get a look at the Baptism records for Gretna (or Graitney) for 1816? I don't mean the transcripts I mean copies of the original records?
I'm specifically looking for the record for Mary Ann LITTLE bap 1 Apr 1816. Her parents were John LITTLE and Jean BIRREL.
Thanks,
Tim

I have just checked and the original record can be viewed on ScotlandsPeople. It will cost 6 credits to see.

Many thanks for the very prompt reply. I didn't look there as I thought that they only had transcripts.

John Little and his wife Jean Birrell are named on a gravestone at Gretna Old Church; when John Little died in 1845 he was of "Guards Mill"  - the Carlisle Journal reports a marriage in 1844 in Kirkandrews on Esk between Robert Benson, draper of Carlisle, to Mary Ann Little, daughter of Mr John Little of Guards Mill.

(I think Guards Mill is actually on the English side of the border though).

Scotland's People is the only site that has original Scottish BMD documents. It doesn't have any transcriptions.

Thanks Robbiesmum,
Well that bit of info about Mary Ann Little's marriage rules her out of my tree!

Oh well, back to the search.

Always better to rule someone out than spend years looking in the wrong place!
