Could it be Upper Fala in the parish of Eddleston? https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=55.76291&lon=-3.21675&layers=5&b=1&marker=55.75080,-3.22033
If so it's about 6 miles as the crow flies from Hutchinfield in the parish of Peebles https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16.993175438052333&lat=55.66923&lon=-3.18613&layers=5&b=1&marker=55.75080,-3.22033

Forfarian, need your help one more time...a direct ancestor died in REDHEAD,SELKIRK in 1854..
I cannot find any reference to it on any map,was it possibly a farm (?)...

Just adding link to old post here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=513652.0 on Redhead for background.

The link given by Emma on the old thread is not working anymore. You can access the entry here www.scottishindexes.com/51transcript.aspx?houseid=69909004
As she mentioned, just click on the links for mapping.

Does look to likely be a farm as you thought. The will of a William Young, who died in 1869, refers to him as:
Farmer in Whytbank and Redhead, parish of Stow

If you are looking for help to find a place, it is always useful to give as much information as possible. It is essential to know the parish, because the same place name can occur in several parishes. (Just a week ago I was standing on top of a cliff called Red Head in a completely different part of Scotland).
I see from the earlier thread that you have already been told that Redhead was in the parish of Stow, Midlothian, and I see that the people you are looking for were named Brunton and were at Redhead in the 1851 census. Using that information I can see that Redhead was in Enumeration District 2, and that other places in the same ED were Crossleehill, Whitebank, Millbank, Cadonlee, Cadonmill, Clovenfords and Torwoodlee.
I recognise some of those names, in particular Clovenfords and Torwoodlee, so I can home in on that immediate area, and there I find https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/nt4337 and that leads to https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16&lat=55.62271&lon=-2.88294&layers=5&b=1
Without all that information, it could have been like looking for a needle in a haystack.
So please, in future, if you need help to find a particular place, remember to give as much information as possible. Say whom you are looking for, and which parish they were in, and when, and what the source of your information is. I am always more than happy to help, but I prefer to start with as much detail as possible.
And don't rely on Google maps.

Monika..Thanks so much...it really helped
Forfarian...yeh..I should have offered up more info....will remember that for future....you sure help solidify my thoughts on my Brunton & Notman couple as they both died in Selkirk.
Geeze,..the travels we take to find the correct kin.
Thanks to you both so much.

The Horburgh family farmed at Hutchinfield back in the mid 1600s. Part of the farm building is still embedded in the drystane dyke.
What Brunton family in Selkirk ? There were a few, including a lot of mine back in the late 1700s to the present day.

My earliest is William Brounton/Brunton.. Christened .Mar 23 1767 at Ladyyard,Kirkurd,Peebles, married to Jane/Janet Cl(e)rkison/Clarkson .
William Brunton their son was born Aug 8 1793 at Stow,,died Aug 13 1854 at Redhead,Selkirk,he was married to Janet Notman ,Jun 8 1821.
William & Janet Clarkson also had a day. Jul 3 1797...she appears to have married a John Gay Nov 1823,
I am always seeking more info and open to any errors, corrections and advice,
Cheers

That name is not in my direct line.
My line were based in Caberstone (whats now Walkerburn) in the 1620s. There were Bruntons in Stow in the mid 1600s and Caberstone and Grains (between Stow and Walkerburn) in the same period. Your William was married in Peebles and born 23/03/1767 to James, with John and Elisabeth as siblings.
ELIZBATH MAIR is a possible mother as she married a James at Peebles in 09/07/1764
There were, however, lots of Bruntons around the Peebles area at this time, as well as around Traquair (my lot in the late 1600s), Innerleithen, the Yarrow valley (my lot by the 1750s) and Selkirk.
