A past family member William Lewis on the 1861 Census , is shown as 50y living - Upper Merthyr and mrd . to Maria ( ? ) . Both seem to be b . abt 1812 Merthyr
Can't seem to find a mrg . after looking through Familysearch this morning..does anyone have anything that could help .
I have notes from a past relative that gives the surnames of Bodger and / or Davies for Maria but who knows... as can't find anything to support the notes . These notes were made c . 1995/6 and passed to me handwritten a few months back .
The same info . gives Daniel Evans ( b . abt 1815 ) mrg . to Elizabeth ( ? ) ( b . abt 1815 ) who mrd . 14 Dec 1835 Merthyr . Familysearch does show this mrg . ( Banns ) a few times but no maiden name for Elizabeth . Again..has anyone a record etc.. for any possible further info . that could help .
Appreciate any help or prompt .

Re the 1835 marriage - look up any births for their children on freebmd then use that info on GRO online to find mmn
www.freebmd.org.uk
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
1861 entry you mentions shows a number of Lewis children born after 1837 - including two b 1850 & 1854 so use the same process as above to determine Maria’s maiden name

From FreeReg, the only Maria I could find, but that does not make it the right one even if she is a Davies.
St John the Baptist Parish Register Aberdare Glamorgan
Marriage: 08 Apr 1833
William Lewis . Bachelor . Aberdare. Maria Davies . Spinster . Aberdare

St Tydfil Parish Register Merthyr Tydfil Glamorgan
Marriage: 14 Dec 1835
Daniel Evans . Elizabeth Evans
Does this match with the Banns?

Thanks Talacharm for your replies . The 1835 mrg . for Daniel Evans is the one shown on multiple occasions and shown in your reply .
Your help with Davies as Maria's maiden name certainly supports my past notes from 20 odd years ago and allows me to dismiss Bodger ( but keep it just in case as a ref . ) .
Appreciate you help with this one..thank you

Could Bodger be a descriptive term? Badger was a name for tinkers, travellers, hawkers etc.

Searched the GRO for children born to Bodger 1840s Merthyr
Berman Lewis 1842.
Maria 1843
Thomas 1846
Ann 1846
