Title: Where was "outbounds" in Devonport (plymouth dock)

Hello!
I have been spending some happy hours researching my husband's 4x G grandfather who was a lieutenant in the Navy and stationed at Plymouth for some years. In 1812  - on www.olddevonport.uk its lists him as being a resident in "outbounds" :
" Lieutenant Lighterness, Royal Navy, was listed as a resident of Outbounds in 1812.  [1812]"

I can not find where this was, any suggestions? or any pointers to any good old maps to check, the ones I've checked on old maps online haven't givem me any clues...

Noun. outbounds pl (plural only) The farthest or exterior bounds; outer limits.

It crops up a lot in regard to parishes generally if you Google the term.
Where it was specifically in Plymouth I don't know.
Perhaps somebody local to the area night know.

I think it might be that he was either on a vessel which was ready to leave, or in accommodation on the quayside.

There is a study of Stonehouse docks but I can't find it at the moment.  The Royal Marine Barracks are/were adjacent.

Just to add that I lived in Stoke for about 15 years.  It's an area of Plymouth to the north east of Devonport and I used to walk the dog in Devonport Park which had superb views over the dockyard and the Tamar.

Thanks for replies, I've zoomed in on the old map and had a look, its interesting to compare to devon port today. I hadn't thought about whether this might be a term for someone living outside or on the outskirts of the parish / area boundary, I wander if it does refer to him being on a ship!

To the Royal Navy shore establishments or 'stone frigates' are ships so 'outbounds' may be related to that, perhaps he was living somewhere which was not classed as part of the stone frigate.
