The 1818 RM Officers list (page 13) lists him as a second lieutenant in the Chatham Division, on full pay, seniority date 12 January 1810.

Thanks that's brilliant. I started researching his younger brother Lt Edward Hackett RN who became Governor of Reading gaol. Edward joined the Navy as a 15 year old in 1809 and also went on half pay in 1818. Thanks for your help.

Be careful... There was also a John Hackett Royal Marine in the Portsmouth Division https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/2ee1d05f7d994df8aeff2e3c42e95eae (https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/2ee1d05f7d994df8aeff2e3c42e95eae)

Same name. Two people.

Thanks for that but the John Hackett I am researching was born in Walesby Lincolnshire so not the Portsmouth one.
