I've found this record on the National Archives: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C17496077
I searched birth records and found only one which fits:
PEARSON, ROBERT WILLIAM HORNSBY
GRO Reference: 1914 S Quarter in NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE Volume 10B Page 115
I'd dearly like to know more. To make a 100% identification - he married Ivy Williams 1st quarter 1945, Bristol, Gloucester. Would that information be included on the full records?
-
You have his mothers maiden name - Hornsby
That is simply a birth registration & will not give any details of his marriage
Several options
Check for a Pearson/Hornsby marriage which will give his fathers name. www.freebmd.org.uk. Likely one in 1909 - Robert William Pearson/Helena Hornsby
Or - check the 1921 census
Look him up on the 1939 register
Buy a copy of the marriage cert to confirm his parents names
-
Apologies - I have my mind on two different issues!! I'm trying to make sure the National Archives record is the Robert Pearson who married Ivy Williams in 1945. Would that information be shown on the full record?
-
As stated in my reply - it’s a birth registration only
How did you arrive at Robert William Pearson? 1945 marriage entry only has him as Robert?
When & where did he die? If he died 1969 onwards his full birthdate will be on the death registration

The description (on the link below) shows you what may be found on the full record, but not all the cards contain all these categories of information …

Thanks BB.
Carole - I have a death registered Isle of Wight in 1989. Age 75. Birth year 1913-1914.
Am trying to identify the father of a friend - and the birth registration of the friend show Williams as MMN. Friend's parents apparently got married in Bristol - hence registration: Ivy M Williams & Robert Pearson m 1st quarter 1945, Bristol, Gloucester. Information provided = Robert Pearson came from Newcastle and served in WWII - hence National Archives record and attempt to see if the Robert Pearson found showing birth in 1916, would have Ivy Williams shown as wife on his service record.
-
This looks like the Robert you found
Death
Robert William Pearson age 0
Dec 1914
Newcastle upon Tyne

This isn’t a service record – it’s a POW index card, created in Germany in 1940, so it won’t show a marriage of 1945.
His service record will be held at the MoD, and next-of-kin can apply for it (by sending £30 and a copy of the death certificate). Takes several months to come through.

Thanks. I thought the National Archives showed summaries of service records.

Thanks. I thought the National Archives showed summaries of service records.
Not for WW2. They are gradually being transferred from the MoD, but it is a long-term project and will take several years.

Thanks again. Am I right in thinking Ancestry have some WWII service records available?

Ancestry has a WW1 record for William Pearson with son Robert b 28 Aug 1916 Elswick
William Pearson self
Jenny Harvey spouse
Thomas Clark Pearson child
William Pearson child
Robert Pearson
Service number 1433
Address in Newcastle
contains marriage 1914 and children born 1909, 1913, 1916. I can only find birth mmn Harvey for Robert.
-
No. Not WW2 service records.
There are cards, lists and various random indexes for some WW2 categories on Ancestry and elsewhere but I don’t know what they cover.
I believe there are some RAF records at the National Archives and elsewhere though I don’t know the extent of these either.
As others have already mentioned, you need to apply for WW2 service records from the MoD. It will cost you £30 and you’ll probably have to wait around a year to receive them. Application form:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records
If your WW2 serviceman or woman happens to still be alive there is no charge and the order will be filled as a priority.
-
Further into the record it shows Thomas Clark 1909 and William (now added second name)
Campbell 1913 as illegitimate, both registered with surname Harvey
William as in the Northumberland Fusiliers 1433 then transferred to R E number 347996

The Robert Pearson who died 1989 I o W was b 25.7.1913
You really need to buy a copy of the 1945 marriage cert to get his fathers name & occupation
-
There are some trees on Ancestry that show Robert Pearson born 25/7/1913, died 1989 IOW was born in Gateshead (Sept.qtr.1913 Gateshead, mmn Jennings) and that his parents were Robert Pearson and Eliza Ann Jennings who married Dec.qtr.1908 Gateshead. He did indeed marry Ivy M. Williams Mar. qtr. 1945 Bristol.
They appear to have had 7 children between Sept.qtr.1945 and Dec.qtr.1955, all in Isle of Wight (one of them a Trevor born and died 1953).
Ivy May Williams was born 11/9/1915 Isle of Wight (birth reg'd Dec.qtr.1915, mmn Lane. She died in Isle of Wight in 2007.
Her parents appear to be an Albert C H Williams and 2nd wife Ellen Lane who married just before Ivy was born in June quarter 1915 Isle of Wight. (First wife Jane died June qtr.1914 Isle of Wight).

Thanks to everyone who has responded and provided information - your posts are brilliant. I'm just doing some casual research for a friend, so think he'll be very pleased. I haven't done any genealogy for some years and finding it very hard..............post-covid brain fog!!
