Title: Burial
Post by: aussie researcher on Monday 27 June 22 04:10 BST (UK)

I live in Australia and I'm trying to locate the grave of a relative.

Josephine Ellen Galatea Yencken died in 1937 at 38 Cheniston Gardens London W8.

But we have no idea where she is buried.
I have contacted so many different cemeteries, I'm running out of options.
We have her death certificate and Will & Probate but these are not assisting at all.
She was born in Australia but would someone be shipped back in 1937?

She isn't on the deceased online site nor on the England Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991 Index.

Any help would be wonderful.

Aussie Researcher.

Was she ill?

1911 census Fiddington House Asylum, Market Lavington Wiltshire a Josephine Yencken is a patient age 42

Did she travel 1894 perhaps to visit her brother? a J Yencken born 1868 from Australia to London.

Her brother Reginald Frederick Yencken moved to England and stayed marrying Mabel Augusta Spackman 16 July 1896 at Haywards Heath Sussex.
Witness at the wedding are Emily Catherine Druce and Henry Spackman.

Is Emily Catherine related to his mother who was Ellen Druce?
1939 he is still in England - Dorset born 8 April 1869
He dies 3 January 1945 Bridport Dorset.

Josephine did a lot of travelling.
She died from a stroke and had CA of the pancreas aged 70.
Emily was Ellen's sister.
All you suggested are her. I have a lot of her history.

It's just where she is buried that I can't find.

Her previous address was 69 Longridge Road Earls Court, London, SW5 9SG

She may have died at the address given on the death certificate but perhaps it wasn't a residence , maybe a nursing home or she was visiting someone.

I would look in Herne Bay Kent, re newspaper articles

Bromley & West Kent Mercury dated 31 December 1937.
Miss Josephine Ellen Galatea Yencken of Herne Bay Kent and formerly of Glebe Road Bromley who died last June left ...........

12 February 1938 Herne Bay Press
Notice re the estate of Miss Josephine Ellen Galatea Yencken late of W ? Tree Cottage Greenhill Gardens, Herne Bay Kent. ......

26 January 1935 Herne Bay Press
City council approves  bungalow Greenhill Gardens for Miss Josephine Ellen Galatea Yencken being handled by solicitors.............

I don't have a subscription to Find My Past hence the ............... as I can only see the first line and not the remainder of the article.

Many thanks for these.

I can access 'Find my Past' via my library online.

I know the addresses are mentioned in her Will & Probate.
Probate was proven in Kent.

Maybe she is back out there.

It is now 2 years since I first posted my question as to where Josephine Ellen Galatea Yencken is buried.
I still don't have any idea. She has to be somewhere.

My thought and only a thought could she have left her body to a medical university or something similar?
Where would I find anything or any place close to Kensington in 1937.
Remembering it was June when she died.
Family in Australia would love know, we are at a loss to find where she is resting.
Any ideas or suggestions most welcome.

I would have thought that the will should mention if her body was to be left for research or similar, I know one of my family wills does.

Sadly nothing in her will or probate documents for UK or Australia.
Hence I'm trying to think of what else could be possible.
She died in 1937.

Do you know what religion she was? I wondered if she was Jewish

Would she have been more likely to be buried in Kent?

Who was the informant on her death certificate, what was their address

ADDED
Another possibility is that she could have been buried at Brookwood Cemetery (London Necropolis Co) as they were still taking burials from London at this time

I know this doesn't assist with the burial location request, but this looks like Josephine.

Wiltshire Asylum Registers, 1789-1921

Thank you all for your comments, I'll answer each below.

CaroleW - Josephine was Catholic. I have look in Kent but think I need to explore more.

rosie99 - address was 38 Cheniston Gardens. informant I believe to be a staff member, not a family member.
I'll look into your suggestion of Brookwood Cemetery.

Ashtone - Yes this is Josephine. I will look in the Wiltshire area, maybe she when back to that area.

I have some more research to do.
