Thanks

I'm probably not the best person to offer advice on this as I don't own any Apple devices but I think you have a few options:
- Use a SD card reader that connects to your iPad
You'd connect the reader to the iPad, put your camera memory card into the SD reader, then follow Apple's instructions (link below).
- Use a USB adapter that connects to your iPad.
With this option I think you'd also need a separate USB SD card reader but it may be possible to connect your camera directly to the USB adapter (but using separate USB SD card reader may be quicker copying the photos).
So if using a separate USB SD card reader, you'd connect the USB adapter to the iPad, plug the USB SD card reader into the adapter, insert the memory card into the SD card reader, then follow Apple's instructions (link below).
- Use a computer to upload your photos to your iCloud Photo Library or iCloud Drive.
The photos should then be accessible from you iPad.

If your camera memory card is an SD card (most are) then using one of Apple's SD card readers is probably the simplest option. This the option I went with a few years back when my Dad wanted to do the same as yourself; he found it simple enough to use.
Depending on the version of iPad you have it'll have either a Lightning or USB-C connector, so you'd need an adapter appropriate for you iPad. Apple have various ones for different devices.
Lightning readers & adapters:
1) Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader

3) Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter

USB-C readers & adapters (for newer iPads):
4) Apple USB-C to SD Card Reader

Do you have a PC?
If so you can download and install Apples iTunes app and use that to upload your images.

I use dropbox, probably not the best or easiest but it works for me. Save photo on phone to dropbox and then open dropbox on ipad and save to photos. of course, you need the dropbox app on both ipad and phone, but i also use it for offline files.

The official way. You need one of these - https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MJYT2ZM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader
I bought mine from a charity shop for £3.

I use one of the, to connect my iPad to my PC and my digital camera connects to my iPad via the adaptor to import images directly into the iPad

I just copy / save them from my camera or phone to my computer then email any i want to myself and open / save on my ipad :)

Thanks so much for the information you kindly supplied, and I apologise for not having replied sooner, but I’ve spent some in The Doldrums + time in hospital - and recovery time is never as quick as you want it to be! :)
Yes, I do have a Window PC but i can’t sign in as I can’t remember the password from long, Lon ago, and Google isn’t very keen to help me! However, this evening, it has suddenly displayed a message: ‘Error: OS - BOOT - FAILURE. Eventually it added ‘ Everything’s back to normal. We successfully restored you PC to a working state.’ Great, I thought! But, of corse, I still can’t sign-in! :'(
To add insult to injury . . . my new TV is being installed on Saturday . . . And it’s an Android TV and so that’ll be Google as well! We all be doomed. Doomed,
I say! :o

To change your Google password. Click on the account letter or picture on the right top corner.
1. Go to security in the left menu and scroll down to two-factor authentication is on.
2. Check all is ok (the telephone number is correct and the recovery email is filled in).
3. Then press on personal info.
4. Scroll down to password, click on the arrow, box will appear press on forgot password.
5. Google will send you a six-figure code usually by text to enter to change your password.
Hope this helps.
