Title: Wellers of Hastings/Battle
Post by: wellsead on Wednesday 22 June 22 07:58 BST (UK)
Hi all, I am just starting my family history journey and am delighted to see such rich histories already compiled on the Wellers of Kent/Sussex. What I do not know if whether we fit into that picture at all.

I am tracing ancestors of Moses Weller (1838-1926). I believe parents were Edward Weller (1797-1859) and Elizabeth Macintosh (1808-1867). That’s about as far as I can go with any clarity. All from the Hollington area of Hastings, Sussex. Lots baptised and married in the Church in the Woods (which I can’t wait to visit).

If anyone has any links to these families, or histories that would be of value I would really appreciate your knowledge. Hoping to find the link to some of the established Weller family trees and find our place.

There is a family tree on Ancestry if you can access it

Moses baptised 23/01/1838 Hollington of Edward and Elizabeth

Moses appears to have at least 8 siblings by 1851

Moses and Hannah Gower married 1860 had at least 10 children

Not really sure what you want, it is only connections you are after  but this is just a snippet

If you have only just started a family tree start with yourself and go backwards gleaning as much info as you can from relatives

Wouldn't it be better to post this on the Sussex board rather than the Suffolk one? You're likely to get more people with a knowledge of the area.  I believe if you contact a mod they can move it for you.

Regards

Hi, my mistake - thought I had posted in Sussex!

Thanks for the info everyone. The tree on ancestry is mine. I’ve got back to the parents of Edward so was looking forward. I’ll repost in the local group.

Re your duplicate post.

I have asked the moderator to move this post to the Sussex board to save any possible duplication of info & to close the duplicate one

Same outcome so don’t worry  ;D

Although wasn’t strictly a duplicate post - I had changed it. I’m not after descendants (I am the descendant) I am after ancestors

Edward's parents look to be James & Elizabeth Weller.  He was baptised at Hollington in 1798.

Oh thanks, I can see another Edward and Elizabeth as possible parents, also nearby. It’s so hard to tell!

There is such a wide Weller family in this area at the time. I was holding out hopes I’ll link in with one of the other larger trees already researched and find some relatives.

Thanks for the reply

Edward states he was born circa 1801 Hollington on 1851 census - he died Dec.qtr.1859 when his age given as 62 (born ca.1797) so it seems pretty certain he is the Edward baptised at Hollington, 28/1/1798, son of James and Elizabeth (already mentioned).

James bc.1762 buried 7/4/1843 Hollington
Elizabeth bc.1766 buried 3/3/1860 Hollington

James Weller married Elizabeth Heselden 9/4/1787 Udimore, Sussex - a number of baptisms of children in different places i.e. Rye, Brede, Fairlight, Guestling and Hollington.

According to 1851 census Elizabeth Weller born Brede, Sussex - baptised as Betty Heselden 19/3/1766 Brede, dau. of Thomas and Elizabeth (mother nee Standen - they married 29/6/1753 Brede).
