This is a bit hard because I have a sinking feeling that this may be my long estranged sister. I won't mention her name but the dates on "Find a Grave" have me confused.
DEATH 17 Jul 2000 (aged 43–44)
Gravesite Details
Age: 44, Religion: Roman Catholic, 11 Nov 2002 is the interment date
Any suggestions please

If you look up the burial details for the grave on the appropriate Local Body website, you might get details of the funeral director, who should be able to provide an explanation.

Hmmm .... findagrave ::).
Aren't the submissions to this site, contributed by the "general public" ??
It's a useful site ... but I've encountered a lot of errors in the information published.

If you register with 'Find a Grave' you should be able to message the person who contributed the details you can see - and ask for confirmation or more information. ???

It could be Ashes that were interred in 2002.

The Catholic Church's position on cremation has slightly changed over recent years and it is now quite usual to see Catholic cremations, although the ashes must be interred, not scattered.
Also quite usual is a delay between the collection of ashes from the funeral and the actual interment.
Sometimes it can be many months.
In a case in my family, the wording and creation of the plaque was part of a delay and it was combined with logistics of gathering together a large family for the ceremony of interment.

Thank you all :) The idea of a cremation makes a lot of sense, hadn't thought of that. I have asked "Find a Grave" for a pic of the headstone so hopefully that will throw some light
many thanks

Hello.
Memorial “Unveiling Services” are quite common in NZ. Held a year or more, after internment, when family and friends gather at the grave, once the headstone is in place. Therefore there could also be confusion between noted internment, and unveiling dates.

Hi
If you need further assistance, you could try asking for a look-up for a funeral or death notice - via the "ask a librarian" service offered by the National Library of New Zealand (NATLIB).

... see link at top of page (right-hand side).
