Hi Rootschat community,
I’m looking for information on my grandfather Robert Lionel Davies known as Bob, or any info about the residents at Graigwen Farm. Roberts father was John Davies & I believe this was his adoptive parent, as far as I know there weren’t any siblings. Robert served in the army during WWII & later worked as a bus driver.

It might be better to ask for your post to be moved to the Glamorganshire board :)
Edited: He appears to be on the 1921 census available on Find My Past - should give you some details. Do you have his birth certificate? What else do you know about him? I have found some information that may relate to him, though not at Graigwen Farm so may not be the same person.

Hi Deirdre,
I’ve sent you a PM, I’m new to this so please let me know if it hasn’t arrived. Many thanks for being touch !

Hi Louise, i have replied by PM with possible details. You'll need to buy the birth certificate and maybe the 1921 census to confirm. Deirdre

There's a photo of the farm - sadly dilapidated now - here if you wanted a look....

I believe so Rosie, bit of a complicated set up but it looks like he was registered as Robert Lionel Lewis (mmn ‘-‘) in Bedwellty in 1903. No connection yet found to Lewis family but Robert Lionel Davies born Abertillery is with members of a Trotman family in Pontypridd in 1911. One Trotman daughter was married to a John Davies but widowed by 1911. She married again in 1919 and Robert is with her and her new husband in 1921. Robert married as Davies so nothing other than his birth found as Lewis.
Didn’t post this info earlier as it may have been completely wrong but now looks to fit with the little Louise knew (and explains difficulty finding him).

Thank you for that information Deirdre, most helpful :)

Not found anything to tie them to the actual farm yet though 🤔

Hi,
Robert Lionel Lewis Davies was my great grandfather. He did not live on Graigwen farm but his daughter (my grandmother) lived at Gellifynachas Farm, which is in Graigwen. Unless you are one of my uncles, I'm assuming you must be the child of Viola Davies, my grandmother's half-sister. I am also currently searching for Robert's real parents. I have found his mother - Beatrice Lewis - and I think I may have an inkling about who his father might have been as well. I would love to hear from you and maybe join forces in our search.

Hello there!
Thanks so much for getting in touch. Yes I’m Viola’s eldest daughter & I’m guessing you are related to the son/daughter of the Mann brothers.
I’ve always been fascinated by family history as I know so little & went down the rabbit hole of trying to do some research during the pandemic. The stumbling block is always Robert Lionel, as you obviously understand.
The furthest I’ve got is Beatrice Lewis, I have a photocopy of RLs birth certificate I’d be happy to share with you.
Let’s keep in touch!

Wonderful!! I have set up an email so that we can keep in contact more directly and privately. So, the email is (all lower case and no gaps) your mother's half sister's name, followed by your mother's mother's first name and maiden name @gmail.com (I really hope that makes sense!)

Great idea, thanks.
Just checking… my mother’s half sisters name, full name? Maiden name or married surname?
