I am looking for information on an Old Peoples Home which was situated at 21 Southfields Road Eastbourne. It was there in 1958. I am trying to find the name of the lady who was running the home. She was married to my great uncle George Robertson who was born in Scotland. It looks as if her first name was either Mona or Mina according to the 1939 census but I cannot find a marriage either in Scotland or England for anyone with that first name. I have George's death certificate but it was the Coroner for the district who registered trhe death not his wife. George had unfortunately hung himself in the garden of the home. Has anyone any idea where to go from here? I also cannot find a death for Mona/ Mina Robertson under that name. I would be grateful for any help

Not sure if I'm on the right track here but "only daughter of Mr and Mrs George Robertson, of 215 Southbourne-road" got married in Oct.1958 the month before George died. Her birth, also in Eastbourne (as well as two younger brothers), was 1935 giving mother's maiden name as Elms.
Marriage of George Robertson to Elsie G. Elms in 1934 also Eastbourne-

What worries me is the eldest son of the Robertson / Elms marriage appears to have been born in June/July 1940 which would suggest he was conceived around the time the 1939 register was taken.
Were there 2 George Robertsons in Eastbourne?
Appears unlikely.
Was George flitting between Elsie and Mona / Flora?
Was someone else the son's father?
-
Personally I think we have 2 George Robertsons in Eastbourne and the Robertson/Elms marriage and children are NOT in anyway connected.

There is a death in Eastbourne in Jan 2003 of a George Robertson born 22/5.1907.
Could be the other one.
-
George Robertson was the son of George Robertson & Christina McDonald born 10.6. 1892 as per 1939 war register
When he married Flora Jane McMillan on the 1st July 1925 he records his parents as above. His marriage also records he was of Victoria Place, Eastbourne, and an occupation of Mental Nurse.
In my own mind pretty sure of this evidence.

Thinking about it I think Mona in 1939 is a red herring.
The entry is very messy and I suspect that it should have said Flora J and not Mona J, nowhere else I think is Mona mentioned.

Hi John
Have I got your name correct? Thank you very much for all your help. I never thought that George's wife was Flora. The 1939 Register definitely looks like Mona. It also looks as if Flora went on to marry again after George's death. I will get the marriage certificate to check that. I am off now to get George and Flora's marriage certificate. You were right about who George's parents were.
Many thanks for all your help

Thank you every one who helped me to find all the info on my great uncle George Robertson. He lost touch with his family in Scotland and it took me ages to track him down.
