Post by: karen13 on Thursday 09 June 22 22:35 BST (UK)
Hi,
Just wondering if any age information can be gain from the styles in this photograph please.
We are trying to work which of our family members they could be.
Thank you in advance.

Yes 1940s.  :)

Woman second from left could be wearing a brooch but I wonder if it might be related to some war time service - not necessarily a medal, but along the lines of a sweetheart brooch?*  :-\

Can you get a clearer scan of it?

* or a (Nurses?) watch?

Looking at some of the few pics in my dating books, I'd say 1942-44 but  very difficult time to date during that time. WW2.

Thank you everybody for your responses.
The second lady with the brooch is my nan and she was born in 1900.
I have yet to discover who the others are.
Could i ask you thoughts on wether the others bear a resemblence to her at all?

Regarding the brooch comment - I believe this is a copy of the original photo and i dont know who had that - I will do a little more investigating.

many thanks once again for you time.

The two ladies on the left hand side look to be related.. same nose, same shape face, perhaps mother and daughter? the two on the righthand side look like they are eating boiled eggs.. a popular picnic fare at that time.

The lady on the left looks determined not to enjoy herself, I think a lot of people have similar photos in their family albums. I have a photo of my maternal grandmother and her three sisters and all four look like right battleaxes as the late Les dawson would have described them.

;D they do look formidable and yes Carol i do agree that they look like someone has just called their name.
Our Nan was born in 1900, her mum was born in 1874. Nan had an older sister that was born in 1891 but she died in 1933. She also had younger sisters who were born in 1905, 1906 & 1911.

I wouldn't rule out them being four sisters, it's difficult to judge your Nan's age as she is frowning. People did look older in black photos from that era.
I recognise your avatar photo, have you put up for restoration and colour here some time ago.

Hi Carol,
Yes i have had some lovely work done by the restorers on here - My profile picture being one of them   :).
I forgot to mention that Nan also had daughters, the oldest were born in 1923,1925.
Not sure if the younger ladies would fit in the age bracket.

Thank you for your time
Karen
