Title: Bridget Quinn
Post by: squinth on Tuesday 07 June 22 20:45 BST (UK)
I’m trying to help a friend research her family. Very little is known about her mother. She was born in Ireland in 1925 and as we know Irish records are not easy to research. She  married Clifford Anderson in Pancras in 1948. Clifford  was born in Canada in 1925 . Bridget died in Nottingham in 1966 (??  having been murdered ) Clifford died in Canada in 2013.
Any help would be grateful .
Thank you
Squinth

You've posted on the How to Use Rootschat (Please don't post requests here) board- just click on 'report to moderator' to get it moved  ;)

Not all of us think that "Irish records are not easy to research." There are actually lots of free records online. The problem here is that births less than 100 years old are not available to view online. There are several births for the name Bridget Quinn c1925 in Ireland so you'll need to be careful not to start tracing the wrong family.

Her 1948 marriage certificate should list the name and occupation of her father (unless illegitimate) and one of the witnesses might be a relative. Her 1966 death certificate will list cause of death- if her death was suspicious it might give the coroner as informant and mention inquest date. Accounts of her death might also appear in newspaper at the time.

Added- I did find snippets of one newspaper article.

Hi squinth,

It may be an idea to ask a Mod to move this thread to a more suitable location?

What info. does Bridget Quinn give about her father on her marriage cert?

Is it known where in Ireland she was born as it's a very common name without a location?

If you don't have the marriage cert then I am sure you know that this is the first step to find fathers' names and occupations.

Marriages Sep 1948

ANDERSON, Clifford H
QUINN, Bridget

According to the Irish Press report on her murder she was from Co. Cork, not necessarily correct of course.

Husband called Michael here? and from Donegal?
Belfast Telegraph, 23 June 1966: Murdered woman was native of Donegal. Detectives at Nottingham investigating the murder of 41-year-old Mrs. Bridget Anderson have succeeded in tracing her husband. He is Mr. Michael Anderson, who now lives at Doncaster. Mr. Anderson has told the police his wife came from Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. They were married in 1948, but separated three years later ...

The Nottingham Evening Post on 20 October 1966 describes her as a prostitute.

“Mr Justice Hinchcliffe told the jury they could bring in a verdict of manslaughter on the ground of diminished responsibility if they found Albert Buxton guilty of murdering Nottingham prostitue Bridget Anderson”

Nottingham Evening Post, 21 October 1966

“He is said to have killed her while engaging in a “pillow love game” with her”

Just thought I’d point these out but they might not necessarily be true. It is as if they might be reporting on rumours or something. On October 20 the Nottingham Post says Albert Buxton is 49 and then on the 21st he is said to be 29.

It also says she lived in Albert Grove, Nottingham
