Looking for information about Henry B Crawford who was knocked and killed in a road traffic accident. I have his death certificate which says that he knocked down by a motor car whilst crossing the Wakefield road at Fitzwilliam, verdict, Misadventure. He died on 27 May 1960 at The General Infirmary, Pontefract. An inquest was held 1st June 1960 by Mr Gill, Coroner for the West Riding.
Would this accident have been reported in the local press and if so, which newspaper? A family rumour says that the driver of the car was a son of the mayor!

I had a good look in the papers, and I'm afraid I couldn't find a reference to this.
That doesn't mean it's not there, just that I can't find it. I couldn't find a report on the inquest either. I will try again.
EDIT: Some of the papers for Wakefield aren't available where I looked past 1949, so that might be part of the reason.

Thank you Stanwix for trying

There's a report of the inquest on the front page of The South Elmsall And Hemsworth Express for Friday June 10th 1960.

Hello Yorkslad,
Can you tell me how to access the paper, as I can't find it anywhere. If not, can you send me a copy of the report

There are microfilms of The South Elmsall and Hemsworth Express held at the Wakefield Local Studies Dept. Don't know if they are accessible elsewhere. I might be able to go in sometime next week and try and get a copy of the report.
