I am researching my family tree and unable to find family from cape town
Great Grandfather George henry looper born Cape town 1861 married in London to Sarah Ann Barnett (was in the Marines)on the Gaika ship on the passenger list it looks like he went back to cape town in 1902 aged 41 and was a mason when he passed away in 1905 he was back in stepney london
I am looking for any information on this Family
Both were in the marines. found this information on Great Grandfathers and Great Grandmother marrage licence
Great-Great Grandfather George Henry Looper (marines)Great-Great Grandmother ?? (which I have not been able to find her name)
i Can not find a Birth or marrage in the uk for them
Was there was any brothers or sisters?
Thank You

Are you sure that the marriage entry does not give the occupation of both George Henry and his father as Mariner and not Marines :-\. Compare the last letter of Bachelor with the last letter of Mariner

I see that you already have the information being provided on this thread.
Is it only the parents of George that you are interested in?

and was a mason
Where do you see that?
He is a mariner at marriage
a seaman at baptism of at least one child. Sarah Ann 1898
a general labourer in 1901
there is no occupation on the Cemetery register for the burial of George Henry LOOPER age 45 buried 1 May 1905
-
there is a Johanna LOOPER who gets married in Capetown in 1897
https://www.familysearch.org/search/ark:/61903/1:1:8VMZ-MD3Z
unfortunately the SA marriage records don't tell you anything!
She signed her name, but not nearly as confidently as George Henry did.

Good Evening all thank you very much for the information you have put on the page
Yes I am looking for information on the looper side of the family
GG Grandfather George Henry Looper was born in Cape Town 1861 Died 1905 London and was a Mariner
On the passenger list in 1902n at the age of 41 he went back to Cape Town and Occupation was Mason
I remember my Grandmother telling me a story that she waved to her Father who was on a ship and never saw him again but he died in London uk in 1905
Looking to find his Father George Henry Looper Mariner (born ?? and Mother (no name) and unable to find any birth or marriage in the uk or on any Passenger lists for them
-
on the passenger list in 1902n at the age of 41 he went back to Cape Town and Occupation was Mason
If you look at the original image you will see that the name is J. COOPER, not G. LOOPER. The passengers' surnames are in alphabetical order so I don't know how they have managed to mistranscribe it.
Debra :)

I remember my Grandmother telling me a story that she waved to her Father who was on a ship and never saw him again but he died in London uk in 1905
Henry is on the electoral roll at Cressy Place in 1904/1905 and Sarah is still there in 1911, so someone is telling stories.
Debra :)
