I am looking for any information on the James Edwards born June 1836 in Whittington, Shropshire to William and Mary Edwards. It is thought that William was an Agricultural Labourer.
James Edwards married Elizabeth Griffiths on the 19 March 1860 in the Parish Church of St Martins, Wolverhampton. At the time of his marriage his residence was given as Monmore Green.
His father his given as William Edwards, Woodranger. Does anyone know anything about James or his parents?
James Edwards died in Oswestry Workhouse in 1897.

Hello Kimberley,
Could this be James's Parents, William & Mary
on the 1861 census?
Ref: RG9/1880 Folio 46
William Edwards Head 84 b Whittington, Shropshire Ag Lab
Mary Edwards Wife 62 b Llansilin, Denbighshire, Wales
Obadiah Edwards Son 22 Unm b Whittington, Shropshire Ag Lab
Village, Whittington, Shropshire
Reg Dist: Oswestry
Sue
This is very close to James & Elizabeth on the 1861 census.
Do you already have this?

:) Thank you very much for all your help. Very kind. Does anyone know how i could go about trying to track down which of the two William and Mary Edwaards might be James Parents. I kind of thought that if i looked for a marriage of Elizabeth (as she is the only one born after the BMD was introduced0 i might be successful.
Grateful for any help or advice.
Thank you

my money is on the William age 40 in 1841.
The other family have Obadiah and Daniel in 1851.
James seems attached to the bigger family to me.
Do any siblings show up on later census?
I think perhaps Elizabeth Griffiths marriage might just say fathers names unless you have the luck to get a sibling witness.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me with this enquiy. It is greatly appreciated. In answer to the question from Sue regarding William and Mary Edwards and son Obadiah, i have had to discount this theory. Obadiah was baptised in Whittington on June 7 1839, three years after the birth of James.
A James Edwards does appear on the 1841 whittington census as mentioned on these posts.
Unfortunately, my William and Mary left Whittington after 1841 and i do so wish i knew where they went! They are the missing pieces of an otherwise complete picture.
If anyone should come across William on the 1861 Census as a woodranger, born around 1800, please please, let me know.
Thank you once again, to you all for your help.

Did they emigrate to Barbados? My Canadian cousin married in Canada, a Noel Edwards from Barbados in about 2004 (very approximate year!) and he told me that his ancestors originated from Shropshire.
