Title: Ancestry £5 a month offer again
Post by: chris_49 on Tuesday 24 May 22 19:32 BST (UK)
I posted some months ago about a £5 a month, 4 month deal on Ancestry UK, which I took up. When the your time is nearly up they tell you that it's going up to £14 a month.

Meanwhile, another deal, exactly the same, comes up on my Facebook page. I wouldn't be so cheeky as to try for the same offer again so soon (I expect they could bar me) but it's worth a go if you've not signed up to this offer before.

Yes it depends what you want - 4 months was enough for me at the moment, but a warning that these special offers aren't always so special.

This special offer is one Rootschatters have been using since 2015/2016 and still working
as of yesterday thru this link.  Many, many Rootschatters have taken advantage of it over the years and consider it is a "very special offer"   :)

I wish the link would work for me. I've used it before, but now despite trying for at least two weeks I get only the 1 or 6mth sub. page and it's so frustrating when it clearly does still work! I don't understand how a link can lead to different pages.  ???

Does this come up on the Ancestry FB page or your own page?

@Isabel H - it only works for me if I'm logged in.

Thanks, Flemming.
I'm not on FB but yes, that offer now appears on the Ancestry home page.  However, I want a 12mth World wide sub.

Sandra was discussing keeping trying it on this thread the other day and eventually it worked  :)

Offer has now vanished from my Facebook page. The way to get these offers is to be on FB, express interest in FH, and look for their posts.

Other social media sites are available - and may also post Ancestry adverts.

It's worth trying again whilst using your browser in Incognito or Private mode. Remember to log in as a guest, but using the private browser mode will bypass any cookies or history that Ancestry may be tracking from your previous visits.

Thanks, I've already tried that, as well as following all the advice on the other thread.

rosie99, Thanks, I know, but it's proving remarkably resistant to all my attempts to access it.

Are you logged in as a guest Isabel then clicking the link :

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct

Frustrating as it can be, it seems that if you persevere it will eventually work for you.
We had an update yesterday that the offer was still available.

Best of luck
Sandra  :)

Thanks, Sandra.
Yes, my previous sub. expired a couple of months ago and I am logged in as a guest. I'll keep trying, but so far the link doesn't lead to the offer page no matter what I do.

Just to check - you are opening two separate tabs- logging in to ancestry as a guest and then on the other tab clicking "get started" on the worldwide subscription offer ?

Yes, I open 2 tabs, and am logged in and showing as Registered Guest in the account settings.

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct)   does not take me to the half-price offer page. It goes to the page offering only 1 and 6 month full-price subs.the same one that appears if you click Subscribe on the new homepage.

It doesn't say "Get started" anywhere on either tab.

I've tried all the suggestions here and on the earlier thread with the one exception of trying from a library. I'll give it a go and see if that works for me.

Isabel - another thought  :)  Have you removed your card details ?  It may work if you take those out, even if your putting the same card details in when you get the correct link.

Fingers crossed.

My sub ran out today and offer still works for me although I’m not renewing just yet.

I went to the library this afternoon and tried from there, with the same result as before.
I tried to remove my card details as you suggest, but the only options are to update with a new card or leave as it is.  I tried putting in the same details as before and clicking update, which someone else said seemed to have prompted the link to work. No joy.
I've tried different browsers, incognito mode, other devices (husband's too), different times of day, cleared the cache, allowed pop-ups (as blocking them stopped things working once before on another site). All to no avail.
I appreciate your continued attempts to help, Sandra, thank you, but sadly the link isn't taking me to the offer page no matter what I do, although several Rootschatters have succeeded in the time I've been trying, so maybe there is still hope.

It still works.  Just log in to ancestry.co.uk.  Click on the Home tab along the top of the screen.

Then scroll down - it's about midway down the page.  The offer expires on 29th May.

Thanks, but that's not the one I want. We've strayed off topic since I responded to an earlier post from  Sandra.

Frustrating for you Isabel  :-\  Clutching at straws :-  Are you logging in on ancestry.co.uk ?

There was this suggestion which worked a while back. Can you send the link to someone on fb messenger and then try to open the link you have sent them ? It worked that way.

Thanks, Sandra.  Yes, I am logging in on ancestry.co.uk. I don't use FB, but I suspect it was just coincidence that that seemed to work.  I'll persevere, but for now I need to concentrate on other things.

What's your complaint?
Four months for £20 has been good enough for me.  I've been offered it a few times when I've cancelled my renewal - I always tick the "can't afford it" box when asked why I'm not renewing.
I've even been offered an extension at the same price when cancelling after the four months.

Just to let everyone know Sandra's link is still working today, I have paid £89.99 for the yearly Worldwide subs  ;D Just remember to cancel the automatic renewal a few days before it's due to be taken, then check when you log in it states you are logged in as a guest, a few days later. If you attempt to click the link & your not logged in the link won't take you to the half price offer.

Thanks again Sandra  :)

The £5 a month for up to 4 months offer for Ancestry Premium (all UK and Ireland) records is available again until 17th August.
