Hello all
Please could anyone tell me who was the mother of Mary Ann Crofton born 1841 in Broher County Sligo?
Mary's father was Edmund Crofton born 1815 in Broher but I cannot find the name of her mother or a marriage for her parents.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Where have you searched already?
Civil registration of births and Catholic marriages started 1864 (non-Catholic marriages from 1845) so you would need to see if any church records of marriage and baptism exist. You haven't mentioned religion but many Catholic parish registers online (free)-

Hello Aghadowey and Kiltaglassen,
Thank you both for your replies.
I have looked for the information on Ancestry but drawn a blank. The family were Roman Catholic.
Thank you for the Website Aghadowey, I had forgotten that one as have not been on Roots Chat for a while. I will check it out.
Thank you for the map of Broher Kiltaglassen, it is the area I am researching.
Kind regards.

Griffiths Valuation shows:
1) Edward Crofton, Carrowcrory
2) Edward Crofton, Dernaskeagh
These are both in Toomour civil parish as is Brougher.

Do you have Edmund’s baptism?
There is this one in 1815 but the parish is Taughner - 2nd August 1815

I am just trying to place them and check - that’s why I am throwing these placenames out :)

Hello agan Kiltaglassen and Heywood
Thank you both for the information regarding maps of Brougher and the birth record for Edmund Crofton in 1815. I am certain that you are correct Heywood in the area of Taunagh. Through this I have been able to find a Catherine McDonough born 1815 who could be the mother of Mary Ann Crofton.
I will continue to check further, but in the meantime thank you all very much for your help as always.
Kind regards.

That’s good to hear.
I had seen this baptism too and your information made me check again..
There is this baptism in 1810 July 15th
Catharine Crofton - parents Edmund and Catherine (McDonogh).
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633983#page/37/mode/1up
So these are possibly Edmund’s parents too.

Hello Heywood
Thank you for confirming the birth date of Catherine McDonough as 11th July 1810. I misposted
previously as 1815. I am still trying to work out the rest.
Regards.

Hello Heywood
Sorry for the delay in answering.
I think that Edmund Crofton and Catherine McDonagh could also be the parents of Edmund Crofton Jnr as well as Catherine Crofton. I was getting confused as I already have McDonaghs in my line through my grandfather from Derrygolagh, County Sligo.
Thank you very much.
Regards.
