Hey!
Looking for help making a connection on my wife's side.
We've traced her family back to South Africa to her 3xgrandfather:
Daniel George Hendricks (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/LYFL-2CC)
and through FamilySearch we've connected him to the family of:
Adriaan Johannes Hendrickze (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G9WR-W8V)
However every document that I've been able to find has no connection between them, including Adriaan's death certificate listing his children (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSQF-D9HF-4?from=lynx1UIV8&treeref=LYFL-2CC&i=1065) and Daniel isn't in there.
Where I would normally place this as a dead end and try to find the correct father, my wife has since found several matches on her FTDNA profile that have family trees that go up to Adriaan Johannes, marking him as the likely shared ancestor.
So the trees connect and the DNA matches, but there's no sources for such.
Any ideas?
Thanks heaps folks.

Daniel's baptism names Adrianne as the father.

That link is for Daniel's death. It is his children listed, as well as his parents names.
Edit: The above quoted link is Image 1066 of 2041 (as noted on the black bar above the actual image). Images 1064 and 1065 are for two of Daniel's brothers, and Image 1067 is for a sister.

My MANY apologies and thank you for replies. Daniel we have documented, my mistake was his SON, Charles John (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GSDN-8JG).
Charles John is wife's great-great, but he's the one that's NOT on the document I listed. Forgive the correction.
So it's the Daniel to Charles connection that we're missing.

Hrm.... Charles'
baptism death record says Adolph is the father....
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSQ8-4S5Z-W?i=674&cc=2517051&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQPWR-Y68D
Any chance Adolph is a brother to Daniel?
Edited to correct document type.

Parents are different, children are different, wife is different and death date is different.
Likely this is a separate Charles John Hendricks (this one is also Hendrickz).

You will need to find a baptism for him to confirm parents as the DR you have does not list any relatives - how sure are you that that is his death notice. The parents attached were married in Wynberg- though I note the marriage lists the mother as Rachel Catharina Jansen not Rachel Jacoba Johnson. There appear to be no baptisms for children of this couple in the same parish (not indexed I paged through the register). There are a large number of un-indexed records - you may need to look through several Parishes to find the baptisms. The children don't appear in the Ring Book indexes but that may be because the Non-white parishes were not indexed. I would look through the Mission parishes in and around Cape Town to locate baptisms

See posts above. Our dead end is that I'm having trouble connecting Charles John to Daniel George.

I suppose I'm here looking for help because I don't know how to look through Parishes and baptisms?

You can search the catalog for parish records. I found the baptisms for the Wynberg Parish by looking at the marriage record, in the blue writing above the image if you select Wynberg it will bring up a list of the available records for the parish of Wynberg in that collection. You can see that there are baptisms from 1829 - 1895 - both these collections do have indexes in the images the 1st at the end of the film and the 2nd at the beginning. you can page through using the arrows etc
To find the dates when parishes were established go to https://www.stamouers.com/civil-and-sacred/ngk-churches-in-the-cape-and-their-origins this will help you find the names of parishes to look for in the Catalog. The most likely parishes would be Wynberg, Cape Town, Kalk Bay, Simons Town and Fish Hoek - unfortunately it looks as though the latter 2 are not on-line

Thanks for all that, but I'm afraid it's above my pay-grade or abilities. Is there a link to this catalogue? The link here is for churches but I don't see how to search people.

The whole thing had me confused for a while due to various errors in that FS tree ..
From one of your older posts I gather that you are looking for a couple Charles John Hendricks X Maria Hess. According to that FS tree https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GSDN-8JG, they supposedly had 2 children. James died young and Johanna married a George Henry Adler, so I assume that Johanna will be your wife’s ancestor?
So lets start with that couple Charles (John?) Hendricks X Maria Hess.
FYI
#1 I believe that there was no “John” in this guys name …
#2 Mossel Bay seems to be the main location for this family
I can’t be sure re all the events (especially the deaths) as I could not find any nice probates, but I believe that the story is something as follows (typos are possible!):
Charles HENDRI(C)KS, Occ: Labourer
? Probable birth/ Baptism: b abt 1861, bap 5 Jul 1872 Mossel bay (res Aliwal) (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GTW9-WQ7?i=83)
? Possible death: 11 Feb 1936 Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-G5FH-SWMW?i=24)
-
X #1
3 Feb 1896 Mossel Bay, Western Cape - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9TW9-C8R?i=188
To: Maria HESS b abt 1866,
d 30 Nov 1904 Mossel Bay (Death Info: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939Z-544P-3?i=227 , burial: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GTW9-CXX?i=87 )
-
X#2 (possible second marriage)
24 Apr 1905 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C919-PSTB-L
To: Clara MAART
probable death: 1 apr 1909 Mossel bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-95DR-9D6F?i=52
- stange thing is that “Chas Hendricks is supposedly a bil
probable 1868 baptism: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GTWM-S16B?i=130
These are the children that I could find for the couple. I’ve added the baptism links as the witnesses are important:
Maria Elizabeth b 4 Jul 1896, bap 13 Sep 1896 Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9TW9-HSB?i=323 )
Rosina b 17 Jun 1898, bap 14 Aug 1898 Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GTW9-HHK?i=355 )
Peter Daniel b 6 May 1900, bap 3 Jun 1900 Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9TW9-HXR?i=8 )
Charles Samuel b 31 Apr 1901, bap 9 Jun 1901 Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9TW9-HX3?i=22 )
James b 29 May 1903, bap 28 Jun 1903 Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9TW9-HC8?i=73)
Probably also:
David George HESS b 25 Jun 1892, bap 8 Jun 1894 All Saints, Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GTW9-HH4?i=286 )
Mary Ann HESS b 29 Jul 1894, bap 19 Jul 1895 All Saints, Mossel Bay (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GTW9-HZZ?i=307 )
So no obvious daughter called Johanna for this family ….
In Feb 1915 Johanna is 24y when she marries in Cape Town (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9TWW-B7W?i=123), 35y when she immigrated mid 1928 and 56y when she died early 1946 …
i.e. her birth year is likely between 1889 and 1893, but between 1885 and 1894 there does not seem to have been a Johanna born with either a Hess or Hendri* surname in Mossel Bay!
Currently the big question is: Are you trying to find Johanna’s ancestors …. or some other person’s ancestry leading to the couple Charles and Maria in Mussel Bay?

WOW. Thank you SO much, that's a heap of info and I'll be going through it all to check up on it.
Big Answer: YES. My wife's great-grandmother is Johanna Hendricks and we're trying to find out her parents (and up).
We thought we'd gotten quite high up the chain, given that she has actual DNA matches through Adriaan Johannes Hendrickse, but we're struggling to connect it all.
Thanks again, we'll be digging into Charles proper info to make sure we've got the right guy, but yeah, we'd be looking elsewhere if not for the fact that there are cousins on her FTDNA through Charles, then Daniel.
