Title: George Robert Jones 1897
Post by: richardanthony on Monday 16 May 22 19:27 BST (UK)
George Robert Jones married Elizabeth Ives in St Pauls Church, Clerkenwell on July 22 1916. George was 19, a bachelor and a market porter. His father was also George Robert Jones and a market porter. Elizabeth was a spinster aged 19. Her father was Henry Ives [deceased] and a horse keeper. Jane Coombes and Florence Brown were witnesses. The couple both lived at 69 Lever Street.

I have found them on the census for 1901 and 1911 around Clerkenwell but i cannot find the copy i printed and now i  cannot find them at all. They were both market porters in 1911. Any ideas. George the son died during First World War I think and thats hopefully what i will find.

Any help appreciated

Not certain but the marriage was in Clerkenwell. Think it was local to there from memory

No birth in 1897 in that area.  If you found him in 1901 & 1911 you must have his mothers name.  Can you include it in your post

Sorry - but how did you find 2 census entries without knowing his birthplace?  If you downloaded them are they still on your hard drive?

Did you not enter any details on any FH programme or database?

Mother is Sarah, who is a widow in 1901 and 1911. She appears to have previously been a Mrs Langley. This has identified a marriage in 1892 to a Thomas Jones

So might not be our family

Took me a while to realise!
George and Elizabeth should be together in 1911.

See reply 13 above.  You should now be able to find the entry as you did before.  Possibly the reason you were unable to find it again is because you had the wrong birthyear & marriage year

Had trouble myself finding it on Ancestry - discovered they'd transcribed his birthplace as Oxton!

Yes - that's why I only used the details from Jon's post name, birthyear & wife's name.  There are some very strange transcriptions on Ancestry  ;D ;D

Thanks
Yes very strange transcription.
It appears they had three children who all died over that five year period. Will try to find them but not sure they would have been in the parish records

If you register with the GRO website, you can search their new birth index, which gives mother's maiden names back to 1837.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

JONES, GEORGE
Mother's Maiden Surname: IVES
GRO Reference: 1908  S Quarter in HOLBORN  Volume 01B  Page 651

JONES, MARTHA
Mother's Maiden Surname: IVES
GRO Reference: 1909  S Quarter in HOLBORN  Volume 01B  Page 638

JONES, WILLIAM
Mother's Maiden Surname: IVES
GRO Reference: 1911  M Quarter in HOLBORN  Volume 01B  Page 626

I think their deaths are all registered in the same quarters.

For the next couple of children you can use either that website or FreeBMD.
