Henry Lennox was born abt 1818 in Aughrim, Ireland. His first wife was Sarah someone, and no one seems to know her last name. They had 5 children in Scarborough, Ontario, these being Charlotte June 28, 1844, Mary Ann 1846, Elizabeth 1849, Sarah 1851, and James Henry 1852. On findagrave, I found a date of death for Sarah of Dec 14, 1859 in Ontario, likely Scarborough. It says there are no available records for her birth, death or marriage to Henry Lennox. I hope they are wrong.
If anyone can help, it would be amazing.

This predates civil registration in Ontario by several years (began in 1869). Have you checked with the Anglican Archdiocese of Toronto for St. Margaret's records which may have survived. However, even a burial record would not give her maiden name. Baptisms for the children may be your best source.
The 1861 census shows Henry as a widower, with no death listed in 1860, so Sarah died before 1860. The children are Charlotte, aged 19, Mary Ann, aged 15, Elizabeth, aged 14, James, aged 10, and Sarah, aged 8.

Hi Peggy,
One of the branches of the Toronto Public Library, North York branch I believe, has a good genealogy department and resources I hear. You can contact them. I would contact the Ontario Archive located York University as well. The time period, pre-Confederation, is a difficult period to research, but not impossible :-)
cheers, JDC

Thanks JDC. I will do that, library first.

While the North York library has excellent resources, the Anglican Church archives can tell you which records have survived and what's available.
