Title: George Frost
Post by: daisy3 on Friday 06 May 22 23:51 BST (UK)
Hoping someone can help shed some light on what happened to my uncle George Frost. He was born in Liverpool 20/4/1904, was taken off the street and put into an industrial school  as a child for vagrancy as where his two brothers, I believe the orphanage/industrial school was in Beacon Lane . He remained there until he was sixteen and that was the last sighting the family ever had of him. I have now found a record of him in the UK Calendar of prisioners 1868/1929 where he was charged by the Liverpool police for stealing a coconut, 21st Sept 1920, was tried at Salford bough court the offence was no visable means of support, he was sentenced to three years in a borstal institution. I have contacted Salford archives but unfortunately the court records for that year 1920 are missing. I was told it is very likely the borstal in question would probably be somewhere in the South of England. Without this information it is impossible to find out what happened to this poor man. If anyone can suggest where I go from here I would be most grateful. I have done all the usual searches but it's a needle in a haystack.

Have you looked for him on the 1921 census?  If he was sentenced to 3yrs in 1920 he should be on the 1921

FindMyPast and only by pay per view - not membership.  You can do a free search of the index which will at least pinpoint the area

Wonder if this is George Frost in the 1921 census. He is described as "inmate". No other names listed when hovering over the Image icon, so it's probably the Convict Prison at Borstal.

Name: George Frost
Born: 1904 Liverpool, Lancashire
Location: St Margaret Intra, Medway, Kent

May be a red herring but in Staffs in 1939 is a George Frost born 24 April 1905.
With him is Catherine Frost age 65 (1874)

Thank you all for your input, once again the Rootschat community has com up trumps, i have since discovered George entered the orphanage in 1912 aged 8 years, so just after the 1911 census. i will do some research on the information from the 1921 census which has been a great starting point. Also the possibility of the Staffs connection. This has been a family mystery since the 1920s so thank you all once again for your help.
