The only Edward Ryan who died 1916 in Dublin that I can see is an infant who died of broncho-pneumonia.

Carole W posted a link which includes mention of Walter Scott shot by a bullet from gunboat Helga-
"The Ryan family - tell me that their granddad Edward Ryan was with Walter when he was shot. The two boys -according to Edwards‟s wife- were playing near Clontarf when they shot from the gunboat Helga. Edward Ryan recovered only to have his other leg amputated years later due to osteomyelitis as a result of a kick he got when he was a child. Edward Ryan was 16 when he was shot with Walter. The Ryan family lived in North Lotts near Irvine Street and had two brothers who fought in World War 1. Buried in Glasnevin cemetery."
Death certificate gives Walter Scott's age as 9 not 8 as in above link.

Any relations in east wall?

My Gran (Edward Ryan's wife) was Mona Ryan. When she died in 2011 just after her 98th birthday her house in Caledon Road was sold.My Grandad Edward died on the 8th of June 1967 aged 66 so thanks to your relation who carried him to hospital the day he was shot he lived for many more years! None of the Ryans live in East Wall now. I have only started looking into family history so I have not got a lot of information on my Grandad. I know he eventually got compensation for being shot and he started a coal business with a horse and cart and bought the house in East Wall near his parents. He had the wound from being shot all his life but as someone else on the thread said he lost the other leg because of a recurring infection from an old injury. I am aware that three of Grandad's brothers may have fought in different army uniforms but I don't have any information yet as to who they were.
