Help please.
In 1966 in the Tunbridge Wells area I joined the first 'Beginners Course' of a Club where I was taught Kyokushinkai Karate by John Jenkins. It was an experience and a challenge I have never forgotten.
On 28th August 1967 the Karate Club under John Jenkins gave a 'demonstration' at the Summer Fair, River Lawn, Tonbridge on behalf of Tonbridge Athletic Club.
Sometime later my Instructor John Jenkins gave to me copies of photos that were taken at this event and may have been published in the Kent & Sussex Courier or retained by the Courier.
I remained 'active' in Karate until 1973. I have never forgotten John or the people I trained with.
I have lost all of my photos, can somebody please tell me how to obtain photos that are probably within the Archives of the Kent & Sussex Courier. I have tried but I must be doing something wrong.
Who could I phone or contact to find photographs for that particular time?
I would be grateful for any help.
Thank you
Roy Willard

Roy - Have you searched the online BNA yet? BritishNewspaperArchive.co.uk
If you register (its free), you can have 3 free newspaper views. And if you have the top-level sub on FindMyPast, you can access the same newspaper reports.

Quite a few "karate" mentions c1967 in the Kent & Sussex Courier, including the one below:
27 Oct 1967 (page 1)
"He teaches karate at the Community Centre in Oak Road, Tunbridge Wells on Wednesday evenings and hopes eventually to make the art a part-time profession. I don't know why I became interested in karate but I found out that the London ..."
01 September 1967 (page 9)
"A KARATE EXPERT stuns the crowds—and chops through a pile of roofing tiles..."
Not sure what to advise regarding the 1967 photos. It appears the Kent & Sussex Courier was sold or acquired by another newspaper group years ago.

I found this website, which may help.

The British Library may have copies of the newspapers, as well as the one in London there is also a branch at Wetherby in Yorkshire.

Hillhurst, Top-of-the-hill & Crumblie
Thank you, I do have access to FindMyPast and it is very useful.
With regard to BNA I used up my 3 views.
Crumblie, I will try the link you provided.
The 'stumbling block' for me is trying to find who or what company holds
original photographs of events that may or may not have been published
in Newspapers.
I have tried Alamy Stock Photos, but again I must be doing something wrong even when I have provided dates and Newspapers. Many thanks.
Kind regards
Roy Willard
